Title: LaGG-3 wrecks Post by: Massimo Tessitori on July 02, 2011, 02:41:00 PM Hi, have a look to colorful pieces of LaGG-3 here. What colors are there? Red brown? White? Where are from? http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_954_start_180.html (http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_954_start_180.html) Regards Massimo Title: Re: LaGG-3 wrecks Post by: KL on July 03, 2011, 06:51:46 AM Translation by Google:
I visited yesterday LaGG-3 crash site, presumably of 255 IAP VVS SF. Engine covers on this aircraft were first primed on both sides with red primer, then with yellow-green primer, and then exterior was painted in camouflage colors. Sequence of paint application on the fabric-covered wooden parts: yellow primer, silver, basic camouflage colors. Except for the red VIAM B3 primer on metal parts, everything else is in compliance with the known standard practices. cheers, :) KL Title: Re: LaGG-3 wrecks Post by: Massimo Tessitori on July 03, 2011, 01:30:18 PM Thank you Konstantin. All that white was from some distinctive mark?

Hellcat-70 didn't mention white ??? - what you see as white is bare metal. This LaGG-3 was camouflaged in standard black-green scheme. Red primer is most likely alkyd primer No 138 (http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Research/1948/1948-scan-alg.jpg) Delta dravesina used in LaGG-3 construction was also red. Deluted VIAM B-3 wood glue was used as interior paint sometimes too. The same glue is still in wide use - google Бакелизированная фанера (bakelite plywood) (http://delovoymir.biz/res/site/azko/img/photo/Bakelizirovannaya_fanera_FBV_poverhnosti.jpg) (http://photos.militarist.com.ua/resources/photos/328/8634.medium.jpg) (http://photos.militarist.com.ua/resources/photos/328/8626.medium.jpg) (http://pics.livejournal.com/maxmolchun/pic/00042z3f) (http://pics.livejournal.com/maxmolchun/pic/0003x81p/s640x480) Cheers, KL Title: Re: LaGG-3 wrecks Post by: KL on July 04, 2011, 06:44:55 PM Except for the red VIAM B3 primer on metal parts, everything else is in compliance with the known standard practices. My mistake! :o Red primer is most likely ALKYD PRIMER No 138 (http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Research/1948/1948-scan-alg.jpg) Cheers, KL Title: Re: LaGG-3 wrecks Post by: Massimo Tessitori on July 05, 2011, 07:24:31 AM Now it's clear.
