Hi Xan, there are photos from both sides of this plane on the book of EP, pag.120, and profiles at pag.106. I've doubts on the color of inscriptions on both sides. Have you this book? Regards Massimo

Hi Xan your I-16 is one of Pilawskii's favorites! It is shown in two versions in his new I-16 booklet: Pilawskii still ignores everything that was written about VVS colours in Russia. He insists on his (acidic) lime green AII Green. Dark green is his "Factory Green" now renamed as "AEh-15". All this is ridiculous - AII Green was totally different and "Factory Green" never existed!!!"Frustratingly poor images" are his main problem. His research is just interpretation of b/w photos. No analysis, no historical context, no standards, no analogies... He didn't see red stars on fuselage sides, so it wasn't there. Or, maybe there was one... Other I-16s had red stars painted on their fuselage sides... Can you see the Red Star there??? Saludos KL

There was a discussion on scalemodel.ru regarding the stars on these ski equipped I-16s some time ago. This profile has the red star (probably edited): In Pilawskii?s profiles, the skis look undersized. Greetings. Martin

Hi all, I see the star in the photo, as Xan. I think that it was on both sides, as usual. Regards Massimo

I see it also (is this some sort of Rorschach test where were asked what we see in the picture?). I wonder why it's so faint - perhaps it was overpainted for some reason. There is also a faint diagonal line in front of it, perhaps also overpainted.
Regards,
Jason

Hello Jason: I wonder why it's so faint I think it?s faint due to the light conditions in a snowy enviroment and the kind of photograph film.Greetings. Martin

I can translate at least that they belong to the Air Force of the Red Banner Fleet (VVS KBF; the Red Banner Fleet was also known as the Baltic Fleet).

Hi John, thank you, but I don't know what are AE and AB for. CBF should be KBF. And MAC/b? Regards Massimo
