I was hoping someone could help me with uniform colors of VVS WW2 pilots. Summer I think were Kaki Green is that correct?
Also anyone know what the shoulder boards if any would look like color wise for 1st.Lt. V.I. Merkulov who may have been with the 43 IAP.
I'm doing an RC model of his late Yak-7b, white 22 "For Nickolay" plane. I made a pilot for it and want to be sure of the summer uniform (no leather jacket)
Thanks
Pete

Guess I'll go with Kaki Green and use the VVS Reasearch colorized Pilot picture that Massimo T. did as a reference. I thought maybe folks here would help out as you guys are all pretty darn good.
Thanks,
Pete

next time try using the search feature before saying we didn't help you. (that is how I found it for you-only took about two minutes)http://www.rkka.ru/uniform/

Sorry, Pete - I intended to check a couple of Osprey VVS Aces books - they usually have a page of artwork showing uniforms, but I didn't get a chance last night (at work right now - shame on me!). Not sure if these books would be detailed enough to show the shoulderboards of a First Lieutenant, though.

Sorry, Dark Green Man, You may have miss understood me. I meant no disrespect.
On the contrary I value all the folks here and did figure I could just use the colorized picture MT did.
I have about 7 or 8 VVS research books and tons of BW pictures. I couln't find very many colored ones.
As I wrote I think you guys are the best source out there. I really appreciate all the info. on this site. I've now built about 10 flying RC WW2 VVS birds. Because of this site they all look pretty good. Though not always to scale.
Thanks to all,
Pete

Thanks Dark Green Man great stuff just what I was looking for. I only wish I knew some Russian.
One of my scratch built from foam models an I-16 is on this site in the Gallery under Yak Series electric Yak-1b. As I also had posted it a few years ago with a Yak-1b I did. When the site was updated the Yak was lost.
The I-16 I did was small and I made the pilot mold from Sculpty Clay and vac formed the pilot. I painted it in winter with leathers on using the only book I had at the time.
My new late Yak-7b is a bigger model and I made a much biger pilot so I wanted the summer flying uniform to look good but could not find more than two colored pictures. One a kaki green and the other a kaki brownish color so I didn't know what was right.
Thanks,
Pete

Thank you Sir... I'll give her a try. Gotta drive from Virginia to Ohio for the Thanksgiving holiday. So no work on my plane. Hope you have a good one.
Thank,
Pete
