Title: Scale Bureau 1/48 Yak-9U and Yak-9U questions...
Post by: 4bogreen on December 16, 2014, 04:58:42 AM
Hi guys,

I have ordered the Scale Bureau 1/48 Yak-9U, and i am very curios if someone here has info on the kit and the Yak-9U? I have a lot of knowledge about the Lavochkin La-5 and 5FN, but not about the Yak...

Regards,

Remco

I bought one several years ago.  It is modeled after the Yak-9 in Monino which is really an early model Yak-9P.  The kit has 9P wings which are different from the 9U wings.

Hi there,

anyone still awake?

Here I am, after a bit of a... hiatus. Just saw this post and also the link Troy posted; I almost forgot about that review. So anyhow, if someone's still interested, here's how that kit turned out in the end.

Hi Aleks,
your model is highly impressive and very well photographed. What painting technique have you utilized to emphatize shadows?

Massimo

Hi Massimo,

Thanks!

The weathering is done in several phases and with varying techniques. Camouflage colors are first modulated with light gray to break up the uniformity, then came wash with oil mix (burnt umber and black), MIG pigments are used on appropriate surfaces, as at the wing roots for example and a thin mixture of Tamiya Black and Red Brown (as practiced by Chris Wauchop and Brett Green of Hyperscale) is used to simulate exhaust stains and other post shading work. I then distressed the heavy exhaust trace on the port side with a toothpick and some gentle Micromesh passes, to simulate maintenance skuffs.

Hope that helps.

Aleks

Yes, interesting. The idea to distress the stain traces by abrasion  is new for me.

Thanks much guys! I do appreciate it.

Remco - true, I should. I'm apparently not much of a bloggerati - didn't invent this word it really exists! But every now and then I do get an urge to come out and play.

It just happens that I'm starting to build one resin monster right now and it is sort of a thing that maybe would possibly kind of want to perhaps have some public exposure as it comes to existence. I may start one build thread here; not a promise but it might happen.  ;)

Hi Alex,
excellent build. The kit turned out very well, at least in your hands.
