Title: New MiG-3 from Armory Model Group
Post by: John Thompson on October 28, 2023, 05:01:24 PM
Armory have announced a new 1/72 MiG-3 kit:

Edit - my mistake (again) - it's not AMG/Arsenal Model Group, it's Armory Model Group - totally different company! So it really is 1/72!

I sold my HobbyBoss long time ago.
While cheap and accurate, it still requires too much work to bring it to a high standard.
So I decided to wait for the moment someone else issues a decent full kit.

That moment is soon...  ::)

I am just sad by all the people whining (in FB comments below) what they should've issued instead...
That tends to kill small kit maker enthusiasm fast.

Yes, I was disappointed to read those comments too, but it's always the same on almost every forum - there are always complainers who want something different, usually a different scale, or else some ridiculous aircraft that no one else ever heard of. Like a Yak-9...  Oops - that was me! ;D

Speaking of complaints, I'm suspicious that the windscreen shape is wrong, although it isn't very well visible in any of the FB images. Instead of the curved shape of the MiG-3's windscreen, the images (especially the first one and the last one) seem to show a framed assembly made of three flat panels, like a Yak-9, for example. I posted a comment on Armory's FB page asking if they could show an image of the canopy; let's see if they do it.

Looks interesting, I would know more. An adequate kit was just needed. Is this their first kit released?

I believe this is their first 1/72 aircraft kit. Hannants' web site shows 515 products, both kits and accessories, mostly in 1/144 but in other scales as well, including 1/72 accessories.

Also a lot of armour.

They have lots of interesting pieces and even many complete kits.

Now available for pre-order from Armory:

Yes, I have already placed my order...  ;D

Here's their Facebook page:

I posted a reply asking them to release the early-version MiG-3 too - feel free to do the same! Maybe if enough people ask for it, it will happen, although buying the late version doesn't hurt - they have already said they would consider the early MiG-3 if sales of the late one were good.
