Hi all, excuse me for my ignorance:Can I trasform a Mig-3 Early type in to a later one?Which are the major and more visibily trasformation?Perhaps is a silly question but I know the Russian World very few......be patient!!!
P.S. I've an early 1\48 Trumpeteer Mig-3 but I've seen some interesting camo profiles all late..........
Hey Kikko! There's no such thing as silly questions. Just off the top of my head, the changes required to make an early MiG-3 into a late one are:
(1) Add slats to the leading edges of the wings
(2) Different style of pitot tube (because of the slats)
(3) Slight difference in shape of stabilizers/elevators (probably not noticeable enough to bother with)
(4) Louvres (air outlets) on fuselage sides below cockpit
(5) Full-length fairings over two outer guns on cowling top
(6) Fairing or shield over first exhaust stack on both sides
Those are the major ones and a couple of the minor ones; comparison of drawings for early and late types will help guide you. Massimo's "Mushroom Press" book is the best reference available on the MiG-3.

This set is probably the easiest to use to determine differences between early and late:

both the same:
