Title: AMT-11/-12/-7 in Soviet Art
Post by: John Thompson on October 30, 2009, 12:35:48 AM
Here's a GPW-era painting of an Il-2 by an artist named S. Tsvetkov, in the late-war AMT-11/-12/-7 scheme:

(http://s3.postimage.org/1zh8Bi.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1zh8Bi)

I think this is interesting, not only for historical reasons, but also because it offers a sample of these colours as matched by the eye and palette of a trained, professional artist, who was actually there to see these colours himself! (or herself, possibly...)

The original web page is here; it contains some very inspiring and thought-provoking works of art:

Link to page 2 at the bottom of that page.

Hi John,? :)

It's a nice picture, but it doesn't belong to GPW art.
Sergey Tsvetkov is a modern ilustrator; Il-2 illustration was made as a cover page for "Istoriya Aviatsiyi" magazine (№6/2000) .

IMHO, Il-2 colours are not accurate.

Arrrrgghh!!!! &*%^$$#*!!! I knew it was too good to be true! Well, thanks very much for setting me straight on that. I did suspect that Tsvetkov might not have done his painting during the war, but I thought perhaps it was from the late 1940's - early 1950's, at worst. I didn't take the time to do any research on the artist, as I should have. Blast - I thought I'd made a useful discovery... ;)

Hi John,
an exceptional page indeed! I love all that paintings of war. Realistic and well representative of lots of different events of war.
For the image of Il-2, I remember that it was discussed somewhere a pair of years ago.
