Hi, I've updated the I-16 page by a page on the evolution of its painting. It is still in progress. Please, let me know any suggestion and help me to improve the captions. I've started to add external links on the I-16 page too. Please, if you have links on I-16, this is the good time to suggest them. Regards Massimo

Also, I have some doubts over this particular aircraft being AII green, since B/W photos show a very dark shade (almost black)... or this one, waaay too dark But, I have no suggestion over the correct color designation... the sky is too dark too, and German jeep should be GRAY! So, use your PhotoShop and adjust colours... KL

Massimo, "Type 6" was a code for a small series of I-5 two-seaters made at Zavod 21.
"I-16 Type 6" never existed - it's an urban legend / myth.

Hi Warhawk and Konstantin about the photo, it's impossible to do better without repainting it. The shades shown are, with some small regulations, those of the original photo. It's already good that red can be distinguished from green. The link to Narod is very good, thank you, I've included it into the page.
What are the sources from which you took the information that I-16 type 6 never existed? Regards Massimo

Thank you for the links, John! I'd forgotten about the Bushfire Wars site; that was a very interesting site. It's a shame it's not really around anymore. I also read about the PZL P.24 in Greek service on this site. I just need some evidence that it fought on the Eastern front (Romania, perhaps?) in order to force myself to purchase the new Azur kit.
Regards,
Jason

Hi Konstantin, "I-16 Type 6" never existed - it's an urban legend / myth. on 'Polikarpov I-16 fighter' of Gordon and Dexter there is written that I-16 tip 6 is the designation of an interim batch of 30 planes with an additional synchronized ShKAS under the fuselage sent to Spain. Regards Massimo

That definition of "Type 6" originates from Armada I-16 book by M. Maslov. Maslov corrected this in his last I-16 book published by Yauza Eksmo in 2008. For listing of Zavod 21 "types" check http://www.ilisso.ru/timsz/avia/gaz21.htmWhat are the sources from which you took the information that I-16 type 6 never existed?
Production logs and diaries...

Hi Jason, Bushfire had a pretty good write up of the air war in Greece but it's supposed to going to be upgraded. This link has a pretty good history section. Hope it helps. Cheers, Steve http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/p24lk_1.htm
