I'm looking for camo scheme for Vassili Emelyanenko of 7. GShAP. Eduard completly missed camo for this machine. According to the photo in Monografie lotnitze which shows left wing root the pattern is completly different. Also Eduard gives this machine as green - black which i consider unlikley. Does anybody have anything on this? Also photo of Ostapenko and Emeljanenko in front of unknown machine shows the machine with stars on the spinner and U/C gondolas. Pic's i have of this machine (first is from Monografie publication others are from various sources): Also as far as i understand all Il-2m (two seat with straight wing) had wooden fuselage and outer wings. Do i assume correctly?

as with most things on the Il-2 Shturmovik there is much debate. my personal preference is for Industrial Metal Use Primer , although there are (or seem to be) photos of some cockpits in A-14 and possibly even ALG-5 at this time it is impossible to exclude these two later choices as the work of regiment's or possibly even done by the PARM's
also I agree with TISO in that Eduard got the camo patterns/colors wrong for the three most interesting ones on the decal sheet. (I don't know about the White 16 aircraft and who could mess up a winter white scheme?( Yaroslavskii Komsomolets))

Thought I would revive this topic as the Hobbyvista links no longer function. So what is the thinking on the scheme for this aircraft? From the photos I was thinking 3 color but the light color band on the wing seems to look close but not quite right to the first scheme in Massimo's article. Anyone have further ideas?

Hi, I've made this drawing for the book of Jason, I hope that he won't be displeased if I show it. The photos show clearly the usual black dot of Zavod n.18 on the tail; it's a black-green plane with metal wing. The pattern I've traced is somewhat uncertain on the nose and wings, however it was traced with the help of photos of other planes built in the same factory. Regards Massimo

Thanks Massimo, that is the first info I have seen identifying it as a metal winged aircraft. I guess I will have to find another scheme for my project and save it for a future build.

Not at all, Massimo - it shows the sort of excellent artwork that will available in my book. For those who are interested (and even those who aren't!), I hope to have the book on modelling the IL-2 available as an e-book in the next few months. Regards, Jason

Hi Jason
Will it also be available as a normal paper copy book? With artwork like that it definitely looks like something I want in my bookcase.
Regards, Bennie

Bennie, I plan to eventually have it available also in hard copy form, hopefully sooner than later. My "marketing plan" is to see how well it does in e-book form, then reformat it for sale as a regular book. I hope to have it available in both forms. Thank you very much for your interest! Best Regards, Jason

Hi Jason
That is good news. My preference would definitely be for a hardcopy for this type of book.

"Some of those still shots are actually from a video. His plane can be seen at the 6 min 30 sec mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye3WMFPUuqo&feature=player_embedded#!" At 5 min 16 sec there is a nice shot of the 3 colour camo on a 2 place Il-2. It looks like the NKAP #1 scheme. Is that a straight wing IL-2?
