Title: Academy MiG-21bis 1:48 Post by: Palanadine on January 29, 2012, 11:41:01 AM This is the Academy MiG 21 MF Fishbed J kit, which, if my search was correct, more correctly depicts a "bis" version of the aircraft.
It is a special model to me, as it is the first i finished after more than a decade away from scale modeling, as well as it being a 'Red Star Airplane' of course! ;D Academy's kit captures the general outline of the aircraft well enough (there are errors), but sadly it is quite spartan and vague as far as interior details are concerned. I have a special liking for this aircraft, and will be returning to this subject in the future, maybe with a developmental prototype, like the Ye-8, which i find the best looking of them. the Ye-8 is a beautiful plane indeed. Hi John, the linked page is good, but they stopped to update it many years ago, before the releasing of the Zvezda kit. I have some half-built KP, I was building them with the gear up for a exposition on a pedestal. What i think might be potentially quite useful, regardless of scale, is this: http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/modernplanes/mikoyan-gurevich-mig/ (for example, MiGs).
Would be interesting to know just how well these drawings hold up to reality however, so it'd be great if you guys could take a look through them! If they are indeed good, i hope to print several of them on 1/48th scale and compare the model kit parts to them, this will (hopefully) help correct any inaccuracies. As for the Ye-8, for the time being i have acquired the -PF version from Academy, and maybe get an Eduard kit as well, just so i wont have to scratch build EVERY internal detail again. John I think that was the one i was looking for, no worries about threadnought size, can cope! ;) As for online walkarounds, you bet! After collecting a sizable amount of photos (both of real aircraft, and well made models to compare), i realized i had quite enough to go on - remember, this was my first construction after a long period during which i had nothing whatsoever to do with modeling, so mainly wanted it to look 'busy', rather than XX,X% accurate! Goes without saying of course that when (not "if") i start building another one, regardless of type and scale, i will use every resource available to make it as close to the real thing as possible.
