I like to build my models with open canopies, which in this case will be difficult because of the way the sliding section overlaps the rear section. has anybody found any replacements that work?

If you make a research on Google with 'yak-9 vacuform canopy' you find the one made by Squadron (and perhaps other producers) for the kit of ICM. I finished a Modelsvit Yak-9DD as a early 9T. It represent white 48 of Alexei Mashenkin flown in september 1943. All the parts for a 9T are present in the kit, except the armored headrest. The kit is not too hard to construct, but attention is needed in the cockpit because some parts are missing. When I will redo one I will surely use photoectch for the cockpit. Main difficulty is the placement of the undercarriage parts. The instructions are not very clear about it to say the least. Here some pictures showing the end result. it looks good, much more convincing than the older ICM kit. It's a good addiction for your collection. The possibility to make both versions with one kit was there in the ICM too, at least on the 1/72 kit that I still have somewhere in my attic. Probably I'll never build it. Almost all the 9T we see are AMT-11/12, you're right.Sole exceptions being the early versions made from march 1943. Since the order about using AMT-11 and 12 was in mid-july those built before where green/black. The 812th IAP(Mashenkin's regiment) received these in july/august 1943. Main difficulty was to find the pattern. I used stills from a Yak training film found on Youtube to draw a pattern. I'm from the Tony Greenland school - flat is lifeless/dead. Even tanks aren't perfectly flat. I haven't used neat flat in...a long time. thanks for your comments. I do love subtle weathering too. What's helped me is that the 812th IAP was using in combat their 9T for about a month when Mashenkin was shot down. How did you do the canopy? It looks good. I cut the Modelsvit canopy in parts.
