Title: Kagero's new Il-2 booklet
Post by: Chuck1945 on November 24, 2011, 09:55:16 PM
Just saw this in a Squadron advert (http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=KG7013) and am not sure which sub forum is appropriate for my question, so am trying here :)

If anyone has seen this, is it worth getting? - my IL-2 references are the pdf files from Viktor Publishing (Viktor Povinsky) and the Il-2 book by Yefim Gordon, Sergey Komissarov, and Dmitriy Komissarov and the Osprey booklet on Il-2 Guards units.

Chuck, I have the book (I talked about it a little here) - http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php?topic=1149.msg7875#new.  It sounds like the references you have are the best ones available.  Viktor's work on the models is very well-done, The Gordon/Komissarov book is the most complete in English, and Mr. Rastrenin (the Osprey book) is the authority on the Shturmovik.  With these books, I'm not sure the Kagero book is worth purchasing.  The only proviso is that it does have drawings in all major scales - 1/72nd, 1/48th, and 1/32nd scale.  I'm glad I bought it, but then I'm glad for any new IL-2 publication.  Hmmm, Chuck, have I muddied the waters enough for you?

Regards,

Jason

I will probably go ahead and get it just for the plans - Your linked comments were rather off-putting, but as you mention, it does have plans and those could be useful.
