Title: Spitfire LF IXE VVS ICM 1/48
Post by: xan on May 01, 2011, 12:22:16 AM
Hello here's the pics of my soviet spitfire.
I choose a strange d?coretion.
Meanwhile all spits IX where with english colours , this one seems to have been repeinted in sovietic colours.
in all the profile i found, they attribute this plane to Lt col Matsievitch of the 26 GIAP in Leningrad on spring 1945...

I went to Scalemodels.ru to know more about this plane.
I receive a lot of spit IX pics; th eonly pic I find about this plane is this one :

http://www.legang.fr/maquettes/Spitfire%20mkIXE%20xan/petites%20photos/100727090652534316474645.jpg (http://www.legang.fr/maquettes/Spitfire%20mkIXE%20xan/petites%20photos/100727090652534316474645.jpg)

not very definitive isn't it?

according with the russian modelers of the forum, it would not be e 26 GIAP plane in spring 45, but more surely a post war spitfire (the english plane were bought and didn't have to be destroyed at the end of the war...

well here are the pics:

Brilliant work, Xan!  The Spitfire looks great in Soviet markings.  I presume the camouflage is AMT-4 over AMT-7?

Jason

Really a good model, Xan. I like it very much.

I'm afraisd it's the only one Ifind....
Do a soviet spit IX in dark green and ocean grey would have be much more representative, but I liked this colours , it seems to me very original.
In the russian forum they told me this paint was possible in post war , so I went on...
I thought it would be an AMT-4 paint; do you agree with this colours for the AMT-4 green? I used gunze US interior green.
I knew later ther was another green in post war , but the model was done...

Hi guys,

it's been a long time since Xan made this model.
If I remember well there was unanswered question about the "reality" of this scheme in absence of real pictures. ???

Look what I found yesterday on ace Dimitry Kalinin in  "Мир Авиации"
In the middle of this web page :
http://soviet-aces-1936-53.ru/books/books7/index.htm

and
(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/Apex1701/Spit%20vert%20no2_zps8sciyndv.png)

It appear not being the same than Xan's but informations at the time were very scarce.

All the best.

Jean

great find Jean!

the use still in 1948 is very interesting, though I wonder if the spinner might well be red?  Note it's similar tone to the tail number.

cheers
T

Hi,
I've doubts on the use of red for the number and trim tab. Comparing to what can be seen of the red star on the fuselage, they look much lighter.

Fantastic, great!
congratulation Jean, if I had this pics when I did the spitfire , I would have done without a doubt represent this plane.
it's the first post war spit's pic I see.
If you are thinking about a VVS spit, I kept some pics if you are interested

Great find indeed!!!

The same profile can be found in Osprey's Lend-lease aces.

@ Troy : looks red to me too.
@ Massimo: the red on the rudder and trim tab seems to be lighter alright but the rudder seems to be angled differently then the rudder. Could be just an optical illusion.
@ Xan: thanks for your offer. Noted  ;D

All the best.

Hi,
this photo gives the idea to have a deleted broken arrow on the fuselage. I think they should have represented it on the profile.
