That's the colour Massimo proposes in his colour chart/
(http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/colors/chips/AE-9.jpg)

and the federal standart proposed is FS-15630:

wich reference have you use in Gunze or Tamiya, and eventually in humbrol ?

Hello Xan,

a mix with Humbrol 127 and Humbrol 34 is a close match (matched with my eyes) to FS25630.

Hi Xan,
I've utilized Humbrol 28 on my I-153. It looks similar enough to FS-25630 given by Hornat. To tell the truth, looking at some photos of wrecks I suspect that the real color could have been a bit more bluish, but I can't be sure. Some pieces in apparently good conditios should be preserved in Finland.

Pilawskii gives FS-5630 for AEh-9.  Migliardy & Hornat probably obtained their AE-9 equivalent from Pilawskii and his SAFFC.

In fact Pilawskii misinterpreted AE-9 with who knows what.  He did see Montoyas SB fragments, but he interpreted gray as AEh-8 (real AE-8 was silver!).

Cheers,
KL

Hi Xan and Konstantin,

If I remember well, he identified the grey inside the pieces (A-14?) with AEh-8 and concluded that it wasn't silver at all.
