Post by: xan on April 24, 2012, 12:23:29 AM
Hi,
here the first of the three yak-9 I'm building.
I paint it with Akan paints

Excellent work Xan! thanks for sharing.
I appreciate your words about how you decided to make the choices you did with the evidence you had to work from, this is a great help.

Beautiful Yak, Xan, excellent work indeed!  Nice, subtle weathering on the propeller blades.  I wonder if those wing stripes were some sort of aiming or landing aid (the guns were in the nose, so it's hard to see how they would help with aiming, however)?  Or maybe to direct the pilot's attention to the small landing gear indicators?  They're so small that they can't just be a decorative element, I believe.  I don't think I've seen those on Soviet Yak's (of course, now that I know about them, I may find them on many Yak photographs).

Regards,

Jason

Well made model, Xan. My doubt is if the coolers had some brown traces behind their outlet.

Great model Xan!  :)

You did a great job converting that hopeless brick into a scale model.  Your model is proof that AKAN AMT-11 and AMT-12 work -  there was a lot of discussion how they are too dark.

I really admire your effort to find details about the pilot.  I always look for history, stories, behind a model or a photo.

Cheers,
KL

Thank you all friends...
Learstang thefrench MS406had such stripes in red ,

and it was to know were the plane could be raised.

Massimo I have no idea, if someone had pic of yak-9 under part I will apreciate it!

Konstantin we have the same idea of our passion, planes are nothing but pilots, men, instruments.

Hi Xan,
probably color photos of any other plane could help, taking into account that the front cooler was for oil and the rear one for glycol.

Bravo Xan!!! Exquisite model!

IMHO, your camera lens creates too much deformation ? Yak-9T already has somewhat too long nose, with your lens it looks like a shark.

mister K you are right for the shark!
however the fifference btween the two aircraft is quite impressive, beeing the yak-9D more beautyful in my point of view...

Looking good, Xan!  I noticed it had the greenish AMT-12 and too-light AMT-11 originally.  Now it looks more realistic.  It's hard sometimes to get up the courage to repaint an already-finished model; I recently did the same thing with a 1/72nd scale La-5FN which I had originally painted in the brown/green scheme.  I've since repainted it in the rare (for an La-5FN) black/green scheme and just need to finish re-decalling it.  Impressive collection of Yak-9's, by the way.

Regards,

Jason

Great job on repainting that Yak-9T, Xan!  Nice lineup of Yak's.  I hope to have something like that in 1/72nd scale for my Lavochkins (I've got a LaGG-3, La-5, La-5F, and a repainted La-5FN which really only need to be decalled and weathered).

Regards,

Jason

Thank you Jason, but it's a yak-9D  ;)
Massimo, it's the ICM yak-9T kit with the gremlin's yak-6D resin fuselage

Xan,

This is a great diorama and I like the Yak-9 with the open engine.
That's for me the winner.
That's one that improves your modeling skills.

HI Xan

great line up, neat to see the UM fuel truck as well.

Really like the detail of the walkway strip on the wing.

well, it will not really be my last yak-9...
I've just bought this one  ;)

one day , it will becam ean early yak-9 with AMt-6 AMT-4 camouflage, but not yet!!!

Xan

Ah, this beast, by 'Kooperativ Zvezda' in the Ukraine, I wonder if this is a forerunner of the Zvezda of today?  I have one in pink plastic....it's crude but I think there is a yak luking in there somewhere!

I think this is the one refered to in this article
http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/yak179/yaks-matvienko/yaks-matvienko.htm

Once upon a time there also lived a Yak-9 of an unnamed manufacturer from Donetsk(Ukraine), but this one is impossible to find and really unwanted due to its awful quality.

although it says 'Kooperativ Zvezda' clearly on the box, and I think the address is Donetsk [kit not to hand]

I'm with Dark Green man on the LTD kit, bit crude but great surface detailing...I have 4 stashed away...

Cheers
