Title: Some of my builds
Post by: jonbius on March 07, 2013, 04:32:42 PM
I'm new to the site, and thought I'd post some of my recent Russian WWII fighter planes builds. I've developed an interest in VVS subjects recently, so I've been building quite a few. I suppose I can be best described as a "Barney Builder", meaning I tend to build OOB, and I generally try and get reasonably close with colors based on what I have at hand, but I don't worry to much if it's not 100% correct. So forgive me if my accuracy is low.... :)

This is the bird that got me started, from reading "Redstar Airacobra". It's the Eduard kit in 1/48 scale:

This is the Monogram kit in 1/48 scale:

This is Ark Models' 1/48 MiG-3:

This is Trumpeter's MiG-3 Late Version in 1/48:

This is Eduard's 1/48 La-7. I haven't had time to take a proper photo yet! :)

I'm still learning how to appropriate weather and finish the aircraft... part of my reason for joining this forum! :D

Very nice models, Jon!  What, no models of the Shturmovik!?

Best Regards,

Jason

Thank you Jason!

Actually, I just ordered an Accurate Miniatures Shturmovik from Ebay at a pretty good price. I wanted the Tamiya kit, but it costs a few more dollars than I was able to spend. I'm looking forward to building it!

I'm also building the Eduard Yak-3 and the ICM LaGG-3 Series 1-4 kit right now. I may also start on a dual La-5/La-5FN build here soon, both being the ICM kits. I may wait a bit to start on those, as I am also building a 1/48 TBF for a commission build.

Really nice models. I like particulatly the P-39s.
I think that you mean that La-5- 5FN are of Zvezda. I have them too still to build.
Regards
Massimo

Thank you also, Massimo! Yes, the Zvezda kits are the ones I will be building. It will be my first time building their kits.

Hi Jon,

very nice models.
I love the way you weather the paint.

Jean

Thanks Jean! It's a combination of various post-shading and fading with the airbrush, oil washes and streaks, and silver prismacolor pencil. I had to learn to weather models to cover up mistakes! :)

Hi John,

Your models look great  :D I like your la-7 with the yellow spinner! For models straight out of the box they look very cool. A nice painted model i prefer above a good build, but poor paint job  ;D
I am busy to paint my mig-3 cockpit, and will be my first since 1996... I hope it will be nice....

Regards,

Remco

I have built (or am building) several of them and I can now do it without the instructions. :D
if you have any questions or problems give me a shout.
(1/48 is my preferred scale and the AMI Il-2 kit is one that inspired me to get into GPW-era VVS kis)
