Title: Yak-3 Normandia Neman 1/48 Eduard Post by: Ohotnyik on February 02, 2014, 10:46:01 AM Unfortunately I had no time to do my hobby until Christmas time last year. I felt I need to to something simple which can be built quickly.
I have chosen the Eduard Jak 3 because I knew this kit well. During the year I could buy some paint from Mr. Paint and I wanted to try them already. To build the kit was exactly as I expected, since I accepted the constraints of the kit and I did not change anything in it. The inner side of the cabin was painted by the grey of Mr. Paint A 14. (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF2955_zps3f17c22f.jpg) (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF2961_zps2831b3fa.jpg) (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF2963_zpsf6f1904f.jpg) I was surprised when I wanted to paint the outside of the kit. I used to polish the surface until 1000-1200, but now I have experienced that this paint needs the same prework as the Alclad metal paints, so I had to polish until 2500. (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF2987_zpsa6e9c447.jpg) (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF2989_zps37c30d2c.jpg) (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF3004_zps9c0ecba2.jpg) (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF3005_zps88ff4667.jpg) (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF3007_zps21f5f0b2.jpg) (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/vadasz/DSCF3016_zps3bed9eb9.jpg) The manufacturer offers it without dilution with 0,3 airbrush. With this preconditions the preshadowing disappeared and the transition between the colours were not really nice. Finally I had to use 0,2 airbrush and 15-20% dilution (Gunze Mr Color). This is the result: The paint dries within minutes, and can be touched. Now I have used the colours which were in the box, but at the next kit I will brigthen it with 5-8% the greys. I was really surprised when I experienced the following: The red star on the side seems to be good 18,5 mm=88,8 cm; but the red stars ont he tail seem to be too big 15,5 mm=74,4 cm. The ones on the wing are monumental 23,5 mm=112,8 cm. Does anyone know how big these red stars should be. Thank you for your help. I don't know the exact size, but here you can compare it to the wing. (http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/yak3/forum/yak3nn17.JPG) (sorry, I don't remember the source, probably a French book on NN or Replic) I hope to see your model soon. I will have a look in the "pegase" books Xan Title: Re: Yak-3 Normandia Neman 1/48 Eduard Post by: Ohotnyik on June 29, 2014, 07:12:10 PM Hello All,
I have finished 3 weeks ago an 18 month training and I had again time to deal with my hobby. Thank you your ongoing support. I went through on all variations concerning to the decals. The result is very interesting. Authentic Decals: the stars are too big below the wing and on the trail Delfino: the individual sign seems to be ok, but the starts are too big Eduard: best fit the the measure of the stars to the photo of Massimo Begemot: the stars below the wing fit to a mesure in the drawing, but seem bigger than the ones on the photo of Massimo Finally I decided to use together the Eduard and Authentic decals. The Authentic ?s one is so thin and hard that it easily fragmanted and I could hardly save it. They need to be repared. The Eduard decals were also very slimsy, so I had difficulties to use them. All decals I want to use were treated with the film of the Micro Scale, but it was still hard to apply. So here I am after a little wheathering. Regards Istvan Title: Re: Yak-3 Normandia Neman 1/48 Eduard Post by: Massimo Tessitori on June 29, 2014, 10:26:10 PM Hi Istvan,
those thin decals seem come out from a modeller's nightmare. What will you do to replace the lost star under the wing? Regards Massimo Title: Re: Yak-3 Normandia Neman 1/48 Eduard Post by: learstang on June 30, 2014, 01:14:22 AM Sorry about the problems with the decals, Istvan. I've used Authentic Decals also, but to strengthen those I first give them a few coats of Testors Metalizer Sealer (it's a gloss clear coat) which seems to give them enough strength to use properly.

Massimi, I have used an other star from my second Eduard decal set. Jason, good idea thank you, I will try that next time. Those colours (and the weathering) look good.

I think that the oil coolers should leave some dirt behind their outlet. Regards Massimo Title: Re: Yak-3 Normandia Neman 1/48 Eduard Post by: bbrought on July 07, 2014, 10:59:23 AM That is a masterpiece! Really well done.
