Title: VVS Fw-190A
Post by: 66misos on June 16, 2014, 05:51:33 PM
Hi,
Here I made a sequence of screenshots from http://www.net-film.ru/film-27346/?search=q%D0%BB%D0%B5%D1%82%D1%87%D0%B8%D0%BA%7Cp3 (http://www.net-film.ru/film-27346/?search=q%D0%BB%D0%B5%D1%82%D1%87%D0%B8%D0%BA%7Cp3) where Soviets repaint Fw-190A:

Intersting details:
- white is carefully airbrushed,
- red stars are hand brushed, no red stars on the upperwings.

Hi Misos,
thank you for sharing these interesting images. It seems that they used white on part of the lower surfaces to delete the Axis markings.

Massimo

Yes; interesting photographs - thank you! I'm a little surprised they didn't put red stars on the upper wings, as this was a captured aircraft, and they wouldn't have wanted any chance of "friendly fire".

Regards,

Jason

Hi Jason,
I saw photos of the upperwings also of VVS Me-163, Bf-109G and some bomber (do not remember type) and they all were without red stars on upperwings. Just repainted German crosses. So I do not think that it was rule to paint red stars on the upperwings of the captued planes.

I suppose they were testing these far enough away from the frontlines (in the case of the Fw-190 or Bf-109), or after the war (in the case of the Me-163) to where friendly fire wasn't a problem.

Jason

That Fw is freshly "profesionally" painted in the workshop and photographed on the direct bright sun. However, paint still looks matt white, nothing like alluminium...   ???

Hi Misos,
but the sun isn't low here. Many of the photos similar to aluminium are suspicious because the low sun creates poorly lightened parts on the upper surfaces of the planes, that give the idea of  metallic surfaces.
