Title: Yer-2 photo interpretation
Post by: warhawk on July 31, 2014, 07:02:43 PM
Hi,

looking the photo at the Yer-2 camouflage page, which was identified as possible grey-grey cammo, it looks to my eyes I see patches of third paint at some places...
This could be a case of mysterious out-of-template repaintings found on most wartime Tu-2 bombers...

Hi,
I see some slightly darker panels, but one should be close to a cooler outlet and the other one is probably a fillet covering a gap between wing sections. I think they were repainted for maintenance. A third color in the camouflage should have an extension and distribution comparable to the other ones.
No doubt, the use of wide light areas on the uppersurfaces of some bombers of 1945 leaves doubts about its interpretation, but the resemblance to the 'official' grey-grey pattern of Pe-2s is a strong indication.
Regards
Massimo
