Title: Zvezda 1/48 Pe-2
Post by: bbrought on October 03, 2014, 06:08:56 PM
I saw this on scalemodels.ru:

http://scalemodels.ru/news/8082-zvezda-1-48-pe-2---pervye-3D-rendery-modeli.html

I must say, I am really excited about this one!

I saw this on Britmodeller; I have to say I'm a bit surprised about it. It looks very nice, but I would have thought that Xuntong would have brought this out as they seem to be doing the major Soviet GPW twins like the Tu-2, the Il-4, and the SB. Still, I'm always happy to see a new VVS model. I'd be even happier to see a new-mould Il-4 in 1/72nd scale, though!

Regards,

Jason

Is Xuntong and Zvezda somehow related? I'm not sure I understood your comment - are you suggesting Zvezda should have left it for Xuntong for some reason, while Zvezda did something else? I thought Xuntong was a Chinese company, but you seem to suggest some sort of connection between the two companies where they specialise in different types.

Having just received the latest offer from Xuntong, I'm glad it's Zvezda doing the Peshka!
The panel lines on the DB-3 are wide, heavy and shallow and the detail seems 'soft'. Not impressed; the Tu-2 was better in this respect.
Not that these defects will prevent me from building one... or two... but it's a missed opportunity.

Bbrought, as far as I know there is no connection between the two. I was merely expressing my surprise that Zvezda were doing the Pe-2 instead of Xuntong, as it would seem a natural follow-on for Xuntong, after their Tu-2, their DB-3/Il-4, and their SB. However, following Bonehammer's response, it might be a good thing that Zvezda are doing the Pe-2. I'm a bit surprised that Xuntong's DB-3 isn't better - I've seen their Tu-2 and I thought it was a nice kit. I didn't buy it, as I tend to stay with 1/72nd scale (historically I was too much of a collector of 1/48th scale kits, not a builder).

Regards,

Jason

Thanks Jason, I now understand what you meant. When I read it the first time, I thought you meant that there was some sort of connection, so it was an honest question. I see you simply meant that you would have expected Xuntong to be faster out of the blocks on a Pe-2 kit than Zvezda.

I have never seen a Xuntong model, so I don't really know what to expect from them. However, I have all the 1/48th Zvezda kits except the Su-2, and that is simply because I haven't had a chance to pick one up yet during one of my annual visits to Russia. They have really been doing a fantastic job on their 1/48th kits, so that is why I was so excited when I saw they were planning to do the Pe-2. I think the only area where I can fault Zvezda is on their decals, but even those have improved considerably over the years. I still prefer to go for aftermarket decals though.

Cheers,
Bennie

Bennie, I'm a bit tempted with their Su-2, as I have a few 1/48th scale Il-2's (Accurate Miniatures, Eduard, and Tamiya) and it would look good next to them, if I ever finish the Il-2's. As I said, I seem to be a collector of 1/48th scale kits, not a builder.

Jason

Now when are they going to do that Yer-2 in 1/48th ;)

Yes, that does look nice Troy! But if they're going to do a Yer-2, I wish they'd do the first version with the asymmetrical canopy, and in 1/72nd scale. Still, a Yer-2 in 1/48th scale would be intriguing.

Jason

Hi,
looks impressive. I wonder if they will make kits for early versions too.

Sergey Kosachev says it's available in Moscow now.

Actually it's already released, in Moscow on sale since October first. I've got mine, and what a kit it is (http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/public/style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) ! The kit of the year for sure.

shots of the test build of final master here

looks very good.  Be interesting to see if they do other variants.

Interesting and surprising. It's the first time I see an huge 1/48 model on a pedestal.

I plan to keep my MPM "PITA" kit, and try to convert it to a recce Pe-2R version.
I can't really afford to buy any new kits, but if Zvezda decided to release a Pe-2R, I MIGHT just have to save up for one.  ;D

Larry

I think Zvezda gives this option for most of their new 1/48th scale kits (certainly the Yak-3 and Su-2 have that option), but I believe you have to buy the stand separately.

A friend of mine in Russia bought one of the new Pe-2 kits (they are already available there) and according to him it looks incredible "in person". I've been tempted to ask him to send me one, but I have resolved to first build some of the existing kits in my stash. I'll definitely get one of the Pe-2 kits eventual - and probably more than one. It is my favourite twin-engined aircraft of WWII.

Armada 18 would be a big help there.
if you look around you might find it online.

Looks like the surfaces are fully riveted: to me, this is more important than interior details! ;D
