Title: La-5FN "White 57", summer 1943
Post by: 66misos on April 01, 2015, 03:54:39 PM
Hi,
here I started colorizing La-5FN in the rare black-green camo:

This aircraft is from 32 giap (former 434 iap), picture is dated to summer 1943.

The source picture:

is from http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php?topic=239.465 (http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php?topic=239.465)

Your comment is more than welcome.

A great one to work on! I would like to finish an La-5FN I'm doing like that; all I need is the correct white "57".

Jason

Hi Misos,
interesting work.
I think that both green and red paint will have to be darkened.
Pity that the star under the wings is undistinguishable, it will require a lot of care to make it in good perspective.

Massimo

Hi,
thanks for cmment.
Today progress:
Pilot face is done, plus all main colors are a bit changed. Massimo, IMHO that green AMT-4 was not much darker.
I am not sure about the color of the main whee bay and cover (from inside) - they were blue AMT-7 in the previous picture, but after browsing through internet I changed them to grey A-14 now. ???

Hi Misos,
the work ig good so far. I can't say for bays, the lightened part looks as light as the undersurface but I can't say more. I wonder if wheels can be green as on other types.
I think that I would rearrange the image to make the horizon horizontal, maybe cloning some grass to fill voids.
Regards
Massimo

Hi Massimo,
I checked my La-5xx kits (I made quite a big research regarding colors that time), they all have grey wheel bays and wheel discs. Same is on vast majority of kits at scalemodels.ru as well as on kits here. In all cases there was quite big discussion. Plus discs on bw photo are bright. I know its not evidence, only statistical estimation. However, based on that I decided for bright color, e.g. steelgrey A-14, not dark green.
I started with rearranging picture to horizont originally, but I had problem to fill emty spaces with grass/background without visible edges, so I decided to let the picture in the original position. May be I did not try hard enough ;-) Now there is already a lot of layers, so I will see what can be done.

Hi,

I will post it at some Rusian webs, I am curious for additional corrections.
