Title: LaGG-3 wheel hubs color
Post by: Markino on May 28, 2016, 01:48:05 PM
Hi to all, someone could to tell me what color was the wheel hubs of the LaGG-3, please? I asked for this here: http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php?topic=796.270, but I think this is the most appropriate section.

I thought they was green but maybe only modern planes have green wheel hubs....

Many thanks for all your help!

Ciao!

Marco

Hi Marco,
MiG-3s, Il-2s and other types had green hubs, visible on wrecks and on color photos of that age. For LaGG-3, I simply don't know. Perhaps they weren't all identical, as the legs that can be light or dark. I would go with some green as on MiG-3.

On this photo, you see that the hub looks a sort of light or medium green.
I think to have seen some relatively bright green on some wreck of Il-2, not very different from postwar planes.

IMHO, the colour of wheel hubs didn't change for at least 50 years...  for what I remember in late 1970es and early 1980 MiG wheel hubs were something like this:

modern MiG-29 hubs are not different:

Hi guys and thanks for your kindly reply. In this case I would go with a green like Humbrol 2 "Emerald green" or DM green. This last I do not understand what color refers. There is a reference for DM green (as described here for the Tu-2 in Monino museum http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/colors/internal-colors-primers/internal-colors-primers.html)? In the table of colors of the site I haven't find anything for "DM green".

Ciao, thanks!

Marco

Hi Marco,
I guess that the indication to make reference on  postwar planes is likely. I haven't chips of DM green at present time, you can refer to color photos.

This is "DM Green" chip from Albom Nakrasok"

DM Green is a good match for the colour of post-war wheels, but I doubt that the wheels have been painted with nitro paints. Oil/alkyd paints were more likely...

Hi guys, many thanks for your replies! Konstantin your chip of DM green is a good starting point to use with colors photos comparison.
I will try to do some tests to find a good match for this kind of green.

Ciao!

Hi Konstantin, there is a FS reference for DM green? It would be easier to match a good color.

Many thanks! Ciao!

In FS 595C from 2008, "DM Green" is close to 14062, but not as glossy.

14062 at http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=14062 looks OK (at least what my monitor displays...)
