Until we see what and where A.I. Nikolaenko said about the "pink I-16" i would not consider this profile as something based on reality. Aerobatic I-16 which ended in a combat unit in 1942 was mentioned in A.R. Popov memoirs "V nebe Stalingrada" ("in Stalingrad Sky") published in 1985. This veteran says that his plane was originaly red, flown by famous Anatoliy Serov, but it was overpainted in standard "Protective colour" (meaning military green). This sounds more realistic...
