Title: Relative sizes of the WWII VVS bombers
Post by: 66misos on July 09, 2017, 02:59:33 PM
Hi,
all WWII VVS bombers profiles I have drawn recently I put into one picture in one commom scale. I took lengths (e.g. lengths of the planes alone without nose&tail guns) from different sourecs over web, TB-3 as the biggest one made as a refference (100%) and the lengths of the other planes are just calculated as a percentage from TB-3 length. So it is not any particular modellers scale, just relative dimensions. I have found it quite interesting, maybe you too. In some cases I was surpised how big or small this or that plane was.

Hi Misos, very beautiful comparison.
But, why are Yak-2 and 4 so different? For what I know, they are the same plane but for engines and minor details.

Massimo

Hi Massimo,
I do not know, I also wonder. According to Wikipedia and Airware.ru the length of Yak-2 is 9.34m and wingspan is 14.00m, but for Yak-4 they are 10.18m and same 14m, e.g. difference in the lengths is some 80cm. ???
I have found discussion at http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34495&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=80 (http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34495&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=80) - the same questions about length difference and final consenzus - the length of Yak-2 and Yak-4 was the same - 10.175m.
EDIT: Yak-2 removed from the picture above.
