Title: Units in VVS Air Force
Post by: HenkNtb on October 15, 2019, 12:34:38 PM
Hi, can one of the specialists from this site help me with the following? Researching colours and markings for use in IL-2 Sturmovik and have lots of problems with dating / assigning skins to units and pilots. Last one is the P-39N of Maj. Vasili Sirotin, according to the desription he is in 17 IAP. Only according to PGMonsters site http://wio.ru/simbols/iap.htm the 17th IAP was renamed to 485 IAP in Januari '42. This 485th was renamed to 72 GIAP in March '43. And only in June '43 was this unit operational on the P-39. Hope someone can shed some light on this or point me to a non-Russian book that explains these matters.

While experts come in, I suggest a "reverse search" on this web-page (http://ava.org.ru/).
It is regularly expanded with new photos/data, and updates are posted in this Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/polkivvs/).

Regards
Aleksandar

This website could be a nice source: http://ava.org.ru/iap/17.htm

They have the photo of Sirotin's Aerocobra. Also I usually check these websites for the aces:
http://www.airaces.narod.ru/all3/sirotin.htm
http://soviet-aces-1936-53.ru/abc/s/sirotin.htm

You can always translate them via your browser. I approach these as good sources but of course with reservation because not everything is verifiable.

Hope you find these useful.
