Title: Speaking of La-5 (and Other) Wheels... Post by: John Thompson on June 19, 2020, 02:34:34 AM Is it possible that many GPW fighter aircraft from different design bureaus used a generic design, possibly even all from a single manufacturing source, of main landing gear wheels? I haven't tried to find clear photos of wheels from a variety of aircraft, but I know several resin manufacturers (Res/Kit, Komplet Zip, some others) sell the same wheels for several planes such as Yak-7/-9, La-5/-7, even in some cases LaGG-3 and MiG-3. Examples:

Or are these several manufacturers just imitating each others' mistakes? Some years ago after seeing this from yet another resin source (Ron's Resins), I posted a comment elsewhere about the use of generic wheels on these aircraft and got shouted down for it - now I'm starting to believe I was right. Having experience with komplekt Zip, True details, Armory, Reskit wheels, i can say that the best are Armory and Reskit wheels. I can try to make a foto with all the wheels, so you can see the (huge) difference. Regards, Remco Title: Re: Speaking of La-5 (and Other) Wheels... Post by: John Thompson on June 19, 2020, 09:41:30 PM Thank you for the offer, Remco, but I already have some some really nice 1/72 resin wheels for the La-5 from a couple of sources (Clear Prop and North Star) which are made so that the faces of the actual wheel are separate from the tire. This makes painting them much easier. My question about generic wheels is because I'd like to use these same wheels on other aircraft as well as the La-5 - Yaks, for example. That's why I asked whether most VVS fighter aircraft used the same wheels. Really, in 1/72 scale, no one will notice - no one sees my models anyway, and after they're finished, I hardly ever look at them again myself, but I am curious to know the answer.
Cheers; John Title: Re: Speaking of La-5 (and Other) Wheels... Post by: 4bogreen on June 19, 2020, 10:37:18 PM Oke John, no problem. I think i can make a new thread for the wheels. I have taken some photo's for comparison
