Title: Three questions on Yak-1
Post by: HenkNtb on August 31, 2020, 04:56:06 PM
Hi, is there a good, English lanuguage book on the Yak-1 concerning the various series and their specific features like armament, engine etc?
Question #2: were there still 'regular Yak-1's' built after the introduction of the 1b version. And in general were the series numbered by factory or was that centrally controlled?

Thanks for reading,

Henk

PS I already have 'Yakolev's piston-engined fighters' by Gordon & Khazanov.

Hi Massimo,
I got them, excellent as often with Kagero publications. A lot of technical details illustrated with photos and drawings, probably from technical manuals.

For the Yak-9 I have this one

For the other Yak fighters, you probably know

Hi Bernard, hi Henk,
I have the book on Yaks of Gordon and Khazanov, I see that this one made with Komissarov could be better.
The first book of your post looks excellent, I haven't it but I suppose to have found the scans of some pages from various sources.
I've a book in Russian of Eskmo of 2008, but I can't read it and it doesn't give much satisfaction.

Massimo

I have 'Yakovlev Fighters of World War Two'. It's a good and comprehensive book on the Yaks.

Jason

Good choice; the Kagero books are excellent. Just be aware that the detailed line drawings (in 1/72 and 1/48, and also 1/32, although not the complete set in the largest scale) are included only with volume 2, so keep an eye out for that second volume.

I'm surprised no one is recommending the AJ Press volume on the Yak-1/3 written by Robert Bock
(it is also available in Polish for our Polish readers)
Robert's work is easy to read , clear and concise and the line drawings and color artwork are also excellent.
...and no : when the Yak-1b went into production the 'regular Yak-1' stopped
