Title: i-16 10
Post by: mc65 on December 16, 2020, 03:10:53 AM
here I am with the other recent kit I did, the ICM 1-16 in the early sub 10.
exactly 40 years ago I was struck by this photo

and finally ICM produced this simple but beautiful kit in 1/32, which I assembled OOB, limiting myself to a few modifications in the engine area and in the cockpit. to make the engine visible, I installed micromagnets to keep the hoods in place in a non-invasive way.

Hi Paolo,
beautiful model again. I would like to know more, particularly about the micro-magnets. it's the first time I hear of them, where can one find them?
Regards
Massimo

glad you like it, I found this kit really funny to do, almost a weekend project!

talking about micromagnets, I stock up here:

https://www.supermagnete.it/dischi-magneti-neodimio

the smaller ones have dimensions compatible with most of the large-scale models, and give the possibility to leave visible parts otherwise destined to disappear forever, unless you make a model with all the doors open, which in general I don't like.
I put here a couple of links of the wip where I used them, those are written in Italian, but I hope the images speak for themselves.

anyway for any further information I'm here, it's a pleasure to share what I think is a good idea!

cheers, P.

Hi Paolo,
this forum is nice, maybe I'll post something on tank models.
So, you've made an Ar-196 with engine details. Very nice model.
I wonder if magnets could be good for external loads, so one can show a model both in clean and loaded configuration at will.

Massimo

the answer is absolutely yes!

I have already used this technique on an F104's external tanks and I'm planning a Me262 with at least one interchangeable engine: naked and closed in its hood.
having the chance to see your models will be a pleasure, I'll wait for you on MAB!

cheers, P.

Beautiful job on that Mosca! I just picked up the tip 28 version of this kit, but I also love SCW aircraft.

Regards,

Jason
