Title: Soviet color examples
Post by: Mangrove on December 20, 2007, 09:11:15 AM
From P?ij?t-H?meen ilmailumuseo. Photos were taken at opening weekend in 19th April 2006. Straight from camera (Minolta Dimage Z1) without any "photoshopping". The only light came from the both end of the hangars + windows above. No flash was used except at the third last photo.

Hi Martti,
great images! Thank you very much for sharing!
The fuselage of SB is the strangest one. Why colors are so undefined, as removed in some way?
The colors of the other items look as new, an excellent reference.

Which plane is depicted on the first photo?

Maybe it's because the rear part of the plane was raised from the deeps of a lake?

Which plane is depicted on the first photo?

The rear of Tupolev SB. The plane in the background is Finnish-made I.V.L. Kurki.

It sure has to do with the conditions in which it was preserved before being raised.
I have seen similar effects on other aircraft that were dug up.
Though I have also seen aircraft which had been in wet ground below water level and where the paint still looked like new. Only problem is that the paint tends to fall off soon after the wreckage is being raised.

I slightly added some brightness to this one.

Hi, :)
now I see that there is a lighter zone on the wingtip, around the navigation light. I don't understand if there is the metallic ring still there, that appears of a lighter shade of green as already known, or if the ring is missing, and the lighter shade is of the green on the wooden surface in a part that was not exposed to the sun.
If so, it would be interesting to find a confirmation of the hypothesis that this paint becomes darker on wooden backgrounds for the effect of the sun.

Hi Martti, :)
thank you for sharing these images. Is it a piece of wing of MiG-3?
The shade looks well coherent with the photos that you have already posted.

And what about the camouflaged tail of this image? What type of plane is this?

The tail on the left is part of VL Kotka. Can't remember if the MiG-part is from wing or a tail, have to check it later.
