White 21) the question I have is has anyone seen a photo of the plane? there is some question as to why this aircraft has red on the spinner and seems to have an over-painted RAF Roundel on it. since it shows a Sky tail-band and spinner I am wondering if it is an ex-RAF machine transferred via Lend-Lease. They got a bad reputation because they were worn out (and they didn't come with instructions)

I was always intrigued by the overpainting of the arrow on the sides of the fuselage (see http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/spit/) - What might be the reason for the vertical streak of paint, in front of the canopy? Obviously, it doesnt go with the shape of the original arrow. Was the paint pot dumped by the painter and did he try to make the best of it? Also, the front part of the arrow looks like being overpainted, while the paint of the rear part seems to have been removed. P.S.: If someone intends to build a model of "538", note that the tail fin was repaired and that it's leading edge has a straight profile now! In my humble opinion,I think that EP210 don?t have an arrow at all.I?ve been looking closely at the photo and it looks like, what seems to be the arrow and the streak of paint you mentioned,could be a defect of the original photo?s negative.It?s borders are too irregular and the arrow point is undistinguishable.It could also be a very strange paint streak.You?re right about the straight leading edge of the tail fin,nice detail to add to a model.Best regards: Martin |
