Does anyone know anything about this kit? I assume it's a new mold - I don't remember anyone offering an injection-molded styrene Yak-36 before:

Hi, :)
how many Yak-36s were built? Did they see any operational use? I suppose that it was only an experimental plane.

Gunston's "Osprey Encyclopedia of Russian Aircraft" says that there were 10 airframes altogether, of which "several" (his word) were used for ground tests. Two were demonstrated at Aviation Day 1967. One was used for deck trials aboard the carrier (?) Moskva; a couple were used for weapons-installation testing. The vectored-thrust VTOL system of the Yak-36 resulted in poor stability when transitioning from vertical to horizontal flight, and a new prototype, the Yak-36M, was developed with separate lift and lift/cruise engines. This aircraft looked very much like, and evolved into, the Yak-38 "Forger".

Hi John, :)
thank you. Ten airframes... more than I thought.

John is a very good model. Fairly accurate and cast accurately. Recommend.
