I don't remember seeing these ones before - there's some excellent wartime film images in this, apparently part of another Russian television series called "Wings of Russia". Note the other linked segments in the column to the right of the screen:

Time to make some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy! Wink

It is usually a good idea to lurk & browse a forum before picking up activity but on the other hand what good is membership if one does not post.

Below is a link to the series Оружие Победы that is Weapons of victory

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?annotation_id=annotation_2721&feature=iv&list=PLcRxMIXa98X_zxxU5SQRWsP9dXYlU352F&src_vid=2wlUTvUANJg

The films are about everything ranging from battleships to hand grenades but of primary interest to us are the ones about aviation. Of these there are several including a couple on Yak fighters but also on other fighter types (Lavochkin and Polikarpov) about bombers, liaison aircraft, shturmovik etc.

While these films will not knock you out of your shoes Asterix style, especially if one already has some knowledge on Soviet GPW aircraft, but they are still OK to watch.

Here is another load of interesting vids.

Война машин / war of machines

This a project of Belarus TV

http://ont.by/tv/projects/vojna-mashin

There are three vids on aircraft, Pe 2, Il 2 and R 5. There is lots of stock footage and a rather schematic history of a given type. But still I highly recommend watching it because any shortcomings are more than made up by the  stories behind the individual aircraft recovered, their missions and crews.

I have not posted since considerable time – just too many things to be able to devote attention to all of them.

First, since Eastern is coming: Happy Eastern to all

Below a vid, a little old but hopefully not posted yet. MiG 3wreckage with the remains of the pilot are recovered.

Another IMO interesting vid. The remains of the I 16 with which Viktor Vasilevich Talalikhin rammed a German bomber were found and recovered.

99yo Soviet WWII pilot takes to skies again watching RT’s 360 VR footage (VIDEO)

A 99-year-old Soviet WWII pilot got a unique chance to take to the skies over Moscow watching RT 360 VR video footage shot from a MiG-29 fighter jet rehearsing for the 2017 Victory Day parade as part of the legendary Swifts aerobatic team.

Yakov Lomko took part in the landmark 1942 Battle of Stalingrad, as well as other World War II battles, flying long-range bombers.

RT invited him to watch a 360 video shot aboard a modern fighter jet with virtual reality goggles while the warplane was flying in a diamond formation with the Swifts and Russian Knights aerobatic teams during Victory Day parade rehearsals.

I was wondering if to put it into the Russian Wartime Film Footage on YouTube or the Ilushins thread  and concluded that it deserves to be in both (hope not a repost !)

A Soviet training film about how to operate the Il 2

Эксплуатация ИЛ-2, инструкция для лётчиков (1943) – Operating the Il 2, an instruction for airmen (1943)

Here is another of those training films this time dealing with the Yak 1 / 7 / 9 family of fighters.

EDIT

I just noticed there is a thread about this in the Yak section of the forum with the film as a download.

Is there a dedicated thread to Gruppe de Chase Normandie-Niemen? I have not seen one but maybe I did not look hard enough. Anyway the remains of a Yak 1 (Як-1) of the unit were found near Smolensk.

Hi,
there are topics on planes of NN in the GPW/Yaks subforum, some on Yak-1s, but all related to some model or pilot in particular, not a general one.
For what I see, only the engine block of the recovered plane is in good condition, apart for this I can see only fragments.
Regards

Indeed except the engine only small fragments were found. Since the aircraft was for the most part wood and fabric this is no surprise either. The pilot’s name was given as Jean de Sibur (phonetically may not necessary be the correct spelling). He is listed as missing in action. Interestingly his remains were not found but he did not bail out because remains of the parachute were recovered. Arguably the pilots bones - for this is what is left at the most - must be somewhere deeper in the swamp.
