The film is based on real events. Only the planes were not IL-4 and Hempden.

December 18, 1942 the crew of Captain S. Trunova torpedoed German transport in Tana fjord. Crews captains VN Kiselev and AA Bashtyrkova January 15 attacked an enemy convoy in the Norwegian coast. "Hampden" Bashtyrkova caught fire on a combat course, but the pilot did not turn away until you reset the torpedo. The burning plane became easy prey for German gunners and fell into the sea. Posthumously and his co-driver Bashtyrkovu VN Gavrilov Hero of the Soviet Union.
The captain repeated the feat Kiselev dead friend after three months. Driven by his five N.R.52 aimed April 25, 1943, elected a convoy of seventeen ships of the Luftwaffe fighter escort.
