Hi, I'm new to the board and am looking for some information.  I'd like to find out whatever I can on a Vladimir Levitan, a fighter pilot apparently with the 264, 170 and 166 IAP and the 88 GIAP.  What kind of airplane(s) did he fly, what markings they may have had, etc.

Thanks for any help you can give!

You might want to ask this question on vif2ne.ru or TOHC.

As I said, I'm new to this Huh? What sites are those?

I browsed through the Osprey Lavochkin aces book and he's listed in there, so he appears to have flown some version of the LaGG or La.

Thanks again!

hello Michael
welcome on board!

Fighter Levitan joined his first regiment 264IAP in August 1941. Later 170 IAP and 166 IAP which became 88 GIAP.
At the beginning he flew Lagg-3 in a daytime and I-16 in a nighttime. During 1941-1942 he was shot down 3 times. He took part in the Kursk battale in 1943 flying Lagg-3 after which the regiment was transfered to La-5. In October 1944 was promoted to HSS. As well it's know that the flew La-7 at the very end of the war.  After the war he remained in the VVS and was commander of 979IAP, having Yak-17.
During the war he scored 20 victories individual+ 6 shared.

Andrius,

Thanks loads that's great information!  Do you have any idea of the markings of any of his aircraft?  I'm a modeler and would like to build one.

Thanks again!

Hi BD!
I think I have at home some article on Levitan in some russian magazine. So I have to find it and see if it has anything about the markings.
BTW if I am right my friend had a chance to meet and talk with Levitan before he passed in 2000. Will try to conctact him.

Keep in touch,
Audrius
