I luckily found an example of the Grigorovich I-Z vac kit from Kayuk. The accompanying 3-view from the instructions is below, and it conforms closely to the kit's outlines:

However, almost all other 3-views I've found of the I-Z show a considerably narrower chord. Here's an example:

Anyone know which is right? Or even closer? Photos of the I-Z aren't thick on the ground, and none that I've come across lead me to any conclusion about this wing chord mystery. Thanks for any help or advice!

Welcome to the forum, Herb!  I also notice that the horizontal stabilisers are different in the two drawings.  I realise that's no help; hopefully someone else here can help you.  This is certainly the place to find out.  By the way, if you ever have any questions on the IL-2 Shturmovik, I'm reasonably knowledgeable about that particular aeroplane.

Best Regards,

Check here:

several authors wrote about I-Z:  Savin in 1992 (Krilya Rodini magazine), 1998 M. Maslov (Aviatsiya i Vremya), 2005 Sultanov (Aviamaster). Few months ago Maslov's text published again in Aviakollektsiya magazine.
