I have seen it as 'white 41' on the fuselage and as 'red 5' on the fin. Anyone have any idea of which, if not both, is correct? Thanks.

from http://airaces.narod.ru/all5/brinyko.htm

Brinko was photographed in front of I-16 "Red 5" - this does not mean it was his plane or 13 oae plane.

Hi,
I received some comments from Tapani:
Quote
The man on the left is said to be Brinko and the guy next to right should be Antonenko, but
the plane, Red "5" on the background is sometimes said Brinko's and sometimes Antonenko's.
For example: Begemots large  I-16 decal set describes it as Antonenko's .( without the red /white fintop)

Hi Massimo. I have no idea who is the source of Aviation historical magazine story. Petrov perhaps? Number of this plane on the picture
could be five or anything. On the fin we can see red/white top ,but thats all folks. I was just looking the forum ,and about another pic,
that comment by "KL" was right. "Brinko was photographed in front of I-16 "Red 5" - this does not mean it was his plane or 13 oae plane."
I can say again that - this does not mean that plane is NOT Brinkos, ( or Antonenkos) and i believe someone knows it .Petrov ..? Geust maybe.
But it,s too big fish for me to catch.
