Here is my Il-2 so far.  I have painted it with Akan acrylics:  amt-7 for the underside, amt-4 & 12 and a-21 on the upper surfaces.  I tried to follow NKAP template # 1.  The picture was taken in direct sunlight.  I plan on giving it a gloss coat and decals by the end of next week.

It looks good TD!  The only thing I see is that the A-21 looks a little too grey to me.  Is the AMT-1 more tan? - since the other paints were AMT paints, I think the AMT-1 would have been used, not the A-21 anyway (which would have been used on an all-metal aeroplane like the Tu-2, not a mixed-construction 'plane like the Shturmovik).

I repainted the areas that were Akan A-21 with AMT-1.  I cannot tell any difference.

I tested both colours on a test subject.  The section of the left wing outboard of the 20mm gun is in AMT-1 and the inboard section is A-21.
The differece is imperceptable in my eyes.

What was the purpose of your experiment?

AMT-1 and A-21m were supposed to be the same colour.
-  AMT-1 is paint for fabric
-  A-21m is paint for metal

It was in response to Learstang's comment that the A-21 looked too grey and apparently AMT-1 should be more tan.

I wonder why AKAN made two different paints.

AMT and A-XXm paints were matt - no need for gloss coat!!!  maybe a dull clear coat...

The clear gloss coat is for proper decal adhesion.  Then comes a final flat coat.

I was about to post I'd just noticed AKAN now do acrylic AMT-1 when i thought I had better check if this had been mentioned, and I found this.

And tyronesdaddy does mention that the paint is acrylic.

From this photo, the AMT-1 does look more tan than the A-21 to me though.
