Hi,
here is a link from Vitaliy Timoshenko, it shows eagles on the P-39 and U-2 of Amet-Khan. Perhaps it can help to improve the rendering on the profile of the La-7.

Hi,
I've updated the page and the drawing of the emblem of Amet-Khan. Now his pray is a small plane, not a snake.

Hi,
I've found this page of the same subject.
http://warspot.ru/1279-samolety-sovetskih-istrebitelnyh-aviapolkov-chast-viii
The profile of plane 17 is interesting, but the available photo isn't definitive on the red color of his nose.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Hi Massimo,
it looks very nice. Do you plan to extend that page also on other La-7 aircrafts (Kozhedub etc.)?
Link you posted abobe was already here - it shows the root of the same eagles on the different VVS planes:

Hi Massimo,

looking how shiny the spinners are could they be silver instead of yellow?

Cheers,

Hi
it is interesting how M. Bykov insists on the red-outlined white board numbers, although "hard" evidence (e.g. debris) from 2-3 different Lavochkins shows only blue outline.

From what I have read the yellow spinner (unit/squadron fast recognition) on the Ahmet Chan's La-7 has origin in the time when he flew P-39.

Hi AaCee,
perhaps... but take into consideration that the light comes from forward.

Hi Misos,
do you know which were the squadrons of all the pilots in the page? There is a scheme with colors according to the squadron, but I don't know if it was always respected.

Hi,
there is an interesting photo on Scalemodels.ru:
http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4100&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=220

The plane is of 9 giap and the emblem is as that of Amet-Khan, but the colors of the nose and spinner doesn't look the same:

I don't think to see Amet-Khan between these pilots.
Any ideas?

Massimo

Hi,
I think to see a change in shade on the spinner of the photo below. Previously I attributed it to the frontal light, but it could be that the spinner is really of two colors. But, the difference in the rear part is striking.
If the plane is the same and wasn't repainted this could be explained with the use, for the first shot, of a film turning yellow into black; if so, the spinner could be white and yellow with soft border. Only, it is the first time I see this type of film utilized for a photo of Soviet planes.

May be it's another plane. This emblem could be not personal one, but related to the sq.

Hi Vlad,
It is a possibilty.
If so, there have to be other photos of planes of the same unit with such emblem.
But the same could have been said for the heart with eagle of Golovachev and the heart with arrow of Alelyukhin as representative of whole squadrons.
If so, I wonder why none photo with a whole line of planes with emblems was ever published.
Is it possible to identify any of the men appearing on the photo?

Yes, I read about Aleluhin's emblem related to whole his sq., at one site.
About the persons, you can try to ask at https://vif2ne.org/nvi/forum/0/0.htm
Sadly, strange reasons prevent me to register at that forum.

Why not especial foto? Nobody knows why some regiments havn't fotos at all. Just lack of photocameras in Red army.

Hi Vlad,
I can't write Russian, so I can't post there. Besides, I am very confused for the interface of that type of forum.
It should be easy to confirm or deny the idea of squadron markings, any photo of planes of that squadron in early 1945, other than the aces, should work.
Perhaps this could be useful: the p-39 of Maj.Sirotin had a nearly identical marking.
