Hi,
here are the already known pieces of I-16 of 1938.

There is only one known exhibit showing the purple

and it is not as expected. Is it possible to know what Falco (or any other veteran) remember about this color?

Regards
Massimo

I would be gratefull if you find out what was the mening of the word "emallite" in 1930es French.  Same word was used in Soviet Union too...
KL

vert ?maillite comes from "?mail" wich means enamel.

vert emaillite is the kind of paint , like acrylic for exemple.

it was a mix of incolor coating (daubing?) and patalu (aluminium dust and a binder)

the way to put it was:

4 layers of coating (to strain)
1 with coating and patalu
1 layer of coating
1 or 2 layers of paint in "standart green"

there is a colour panel of 1940

the green could be two or both:

"dark green' and "light green" wich are the two last green:
called "glossy green" vert brillant  and flat green: vert mat

That's way I think the potez color could be the second one...

All that is the result of a friend of mine, Waroff, who is quite fond of technicals questions.

Massimo, Pascal will answer better than me, but Falco is now more than 90 years old...

Xan

Hi Xan,
Thanks for the answers!!!  It helps because Google couldn?t help ? when I search ?maillite, Google sows only Email Lite?

In Russia and Soviet Union ?Emalit? was a synonym for nitro-cellulose dope.  Emalit was a French patent (from 1912 ?) and it was produced in Russia in 1915-16.  From 1918 it was called ?aerolak? (aviation varnish).  Technically speaking, your aerolak AII ?Protective? is an emalit too.  Smiley

This is, more or less, a standard sequence for doping and painting aviation fabric.  It would be interesting to see when was that Aluminium layer introduced

Colour chips are from 1940 ? are they applicable to 1936??? Where is ?tableau vert??

Have you discussed this on French forums?  Any links?

Hi,

Jose Falco is now 97 years old... I met him two years ago, and I'll try to call him next week, maybe. I know his wife is very sick, and I don't know if he will accept to meet me again, because he has some another worries than Republican colours. He's almost blind now.

He's a modeler. Wink
