Although the avia-n-aero site is currently being messed with by a hacker, some of the pages or images are unaffected. I happened to have this one still on my address bar:
http://www.avia-n-aero.ru/coa/_files/photogallery/741244AEBCEA94DF5.jpg

It shows an I-16 type 28 with an interesting lightning flash marking on the fin, and the number 15 on the rudder. There is another image of this aircraft elsewhere among the photos as well, and some of an I-16, or several I-16's (also type 28), without a number, but with the same fin marking. There's even one somewhere in there in *colour*! I wonder if this was a marking unique to a particular squadron, since it appears that it was carried by more than one aircraft? It would make a great subject for the ICM 1/72 type 28!

I hope the site will be cleaned up soon, and maybe then I can post more information. Very annoying!!!? Angry
For what it's worth, I submitted the site URL to McAfee for analysis.

Discovered I had one more on my address bar, although unfortunately not the one in colour:

Page from the Wings Palette site with profiles of two more of these aircraft, one illustrated by three different artists (Red 2) and another one, Yellow 4:

This is why I never finish any actual models...  Embarrassed

John:

Wonderful images. The lightning bolts, stars and color scheme are identical in both planes, so its possible that they belong to the same particular squadron. It will be a hard work to paint the lightining bolt in the small tail of an I-16 in 1/72.See you:

Hi, Smiley
Very beautiful photos. Thank you to have put the links in the forum.
If I don't miss, a silver bolt is on the decals sheet of the I-16 type 24 of Hasegawa. At the moment, I don't remember its tail number.
