I posted this in the Yak-2 thread, but thought maybe of more use here. regarding the Yak-9DD, and limited markings options, Sergey Kosachev of Vector resin points out in this thread http://www.network54.com/Forum/149674/thread/1434464975This Yak-9 is the best on the market, as to the colorfull options you will not find them for DD variant. There are only 2 pictures of the Yak-9DD I aware of and they have only numbers and red spinners.
On the other hand you can easily get any late model Yak-9 (T/K/M) from DD. You should to fill 2 additional fuel tanks on the lower wing surface, and the fuel caps for them on the upper surface:
[ kit also have extra spinner for a Yak-9T.
Concerning the decals, if you'll wait a little, Begemot will release a huge sheet for 100+ variants soon. It'll be in the same vein as their sheets for I-16, Yak-3, Su-2, Po-2 and Yak-7: http://www.begemotdecals.ru/showpos.php?〈=2&pic=1&id=110Sergey. HTH T

I just received a copy of this kit. While it looks pretty good in the box (at least on a par with their earlier Yak-1), I'm really disappointed to find only a one-piece canopy. I like to build my models with open canopies, which in this case will be difficult because of the way the sliding section overlaps the rear section. has anybody found any replacements that work?

If you make a research on Google with 'yak-9 vacuform canopy' you find the one made by Squadron (and perhaps other producers) for the kit of ICM. I suppose that it is adaptable to this kit too (but this has to be checked). Regards Massimo

Hi there is a build on Britmodeller at the moment, converting to an 'M', using the Metallic Details etch set, and using a Falcon vac canopy (Falcon make Squadron's canopies as well) http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234997702-modelsvit-148th-yak-dd-built-as-a-9m-builders-notesregarding the canopy You can also see in the first pic the Falcon vacform rear canopy section being trial fitted. The rear cockpit sill needs some trimming for this to work, and the actually canopy needs to be spread a little to match the width - hence the plastic card rims I've added for it to catch.

Hi comrades, I finished a Modelsvit Yak-9DD as a early 9T. It represent white 48 of Alexei Mashenkin flown in september 1943. All the parts for a 9T are present in the kit, except the armored headrest. The kit is not too hard to construct, but attention is needed in the cockpit because some parts are missing. When I will redo one I will surely use photoectch for the cockpit. Main difficulty is the placement of the undercarriage parts. The instructions are not very clear about it to say the least. Here some pictures showing the end result. All the best. Jean

Hi Jean, it looks good, much more convincing than the older ICM kit. It's a good addiction for your collection. The possibility to make both versions with one kit was there in the ICM too, at least on the 1/72 kit that I still have somewhere in my attic. Probably I'll never build it. Regards Massimo

Very nice work, Jean. I hadn't realized that any 9-Ts were painted in the green /black scheme. How did you do the canopy? It looks good.

Almost all the 9T we see are AMT-11/12, you're right. Sole exceptions being the early versions made from march 1943. Since the order about using AMT-11 and 12 was in mid-july those built before where green/black. The 812th IAP(Mashenkin's regiment) received these in july/august 1943. Main difficulty was to find the pattern. I used stills from a Yak training film found on Youtube to draw a pattern. Some of these stills are seen here : http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/colors/1941-43/1941-43.htmlAll the best. Jean

Hi Jean, very nice. I like that subtle weathering and semi-gloss finish. IMHO it is much more appropriate than dirty hard matt surface as usually seen on the other models on Internet. Regards, 66misos
