Hi PG Monster,
this photo is very beautiful. I wonder how the plane was painted. One can see that the number and the star under the wings are painted in glossy color, while the background color under the wing is matt. I think that it is painted as a night bomber. Probably the upper surfaces were black and green, the lower wing surfaces black, while a medium color looks under the fuselage and the cowlings were silver or grey or blue.

Very interesting photograph. Were it not for the red stars, I would think that this were a civilian DB-3.

Hi Jason,
my first impression was that it was similar to 'moksva', all red.  At a second look, I changed my mind. I've seen some photos of Il-4 that seemed all black, but probably were camouflaged on their upper side.

Massimo, the ADD was created by decree of the GKO (State Defence Committee) on 5 March 1942. It was officially dissolved on 6 December 1944 when it was incorporated into the VVS as the 18th Air Army.

Hi Jason,
so it is compatible with that type of marks without white outline.

About the arrow at fuselage, there was the order of 5 SAK:

"815 АП - в голубой цвет с красной окантовкой"
light-blue color with red outline.

Hi,
you mean this one:

http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/db3-il4/tapani/27-arrow.htm

Light blue with red outline is compatible with the screenshots of 27

but not with this photo of similar plane.

Perhaps these planes are not both of the same unit. Is it possible an alternative identification of the unit?

Hi,
yes, it is interesting.
My impression is that it is not a P, but a big 7 overposed to a smaller 1, probably of different colors that are not distinguishable on the bw photo.
