Hi,
here I started work on the profile of the Polikarpov I-153 of M-62 version in light grey / silver livery:

I will be either this one with the probably red cowling:

or this one nicely documented:

Hi Misos,
plane 12 seems painted all silver, so it is atypical.

wip shows small spinner and radio mast on the starboard upperwing indicating this is a 1940 model.
the other ones in photos are earlier models.

Hi,
here is current progress.
Massimo, so I decided for Red 7, it is not overall silver and is nicely colorfull.
Dark Green Man, thank you for correction, radio mast and spinner removed. Was there some antenna wire, please?

Hi Misos,
looks a good choice.
Will you draw a profile of the later version too, maybe with green/blue paint?

Hi Massimo,

thank you for. Yes, I will do also the latter version in black-green camo. It will be a 4-view so I look for photos showing the plane from at least both sides, preferably M-63 version. And it would be even better if upper wings are also visible.
I-153 was produced during years 1939 – 1941 so the latter version could have already blue under surfaces.

I have checked photos at http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/i15/i-153/i-153painting/i-153painting.htm and White 93 from the 71 IAP VVS KBF in August 1942 seems to be quite a good candidate. Anyhow, it has small spinner like a latter type but it also has the large side outlet typical for earlier M-62 engined planes. I also do not see areal mast. So it looks like earlier M-62 type - should it have light grey or light blue undersurfaces?

Best regards,

Hi Misos,
you can find more on the planes of 71 iap kbf here:
http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/i15/i-153/tapani/71iap-kbf/71iap-kbf.htm
There is a reconstruction of the upper camouflage too, but it looks not standardized.
I think that the planes were fully overhauled and repainted, so I think that their undersurfaces were blue.
It is very likely that they mixed pieces of different planes.

The next one will be camouflaged.

Hi Misos,
very good profile. Only, I think that the shadows of the wings and tail on the fuselage should appear straight. Besides, if the light comes from left, the light spot on the cowling should be more forward.

Hi Massimo,
thank you Smiley

Here is summary picture of the White 93 and other I-153 from 71 iap KBF, 1942:

Can be said that:
- planes 93, 24, 45 and 50 had very similar camouflage scheme, it looks like they followed one common template,
- plane 102 is also similar, it has only switched black and green color.

Hi Misos,
for what I think, these planes followed more or less the same template with the variation of the color exchange, and probably of a specular change as RAF did.
In general we see: longitudinal bands on the front fuselage, that become transverse on the rear fuselage. Similarly, they had transverse bands on one wing and longitudinal on the other one.

Hi Misos,
it looks good, but the undersurfaces seem very greenish.

Hi Massimo,
it looks like that. AFAIK light blue AIIg was lighter and had slightly different shade than light blue AMT-7. So I took samples of your
AIIg

and A-18f

from http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/colors/color-table.html and mix them to get something like this my Akan AIIg paint chip:

Note your AIIg is guite similar to AMT-7:

while Akan's AIIg is more similart to your A-18f.

So I decided to go somewhere in between. Anyhow, I will change it to more blueish next week, I have no time for it now.
Thank you.
