I wonder if that orange color on the star is original VVS shade, or weathered/bleached standard VVS red, or what.

Anyhow, compare orange shade with this red star on Il-2. Seems not so unusual:

Hi Misos,
very interesting photo.  On some stars there is that orange look, in other ones not. The question is if the orange look was there seventy years ago, or is due to the degradation of some pigments.
The layers of blue paint on the Il-2 are interesting too. One is A-28m as shown on Nakrasok, one seems AMT-7, and the greyest one... who knows? AMT-16?

The yellowish / orange color in the area of ​​the stars could be a primer.  Primer ALG 5 was used, which was greenish / greyish and primer ALG 1, which was zinc / chromate, yellowish / orange.
 Or ALG 2 ?, that was a nitro kit that was used for wood surfaces and fabric surfaces.  Probably proven by photos of MiG-3 and LaGG-3 parts / fragments in Finnish museums.

Hi,
I don't think that it was a primer. According to some Russians, the A-13 red often changed to orange with ageing, looks the most likely explanation. This didn't happen with AII red, they wrote.

Great job, but I think the numbesr 15 are different planes. Reasons: 1. Different divisions and even corps, and even army branch (VVS and PVO)
2. Different camo spots.
