Hi Guys,

It has been a while. I have been building a lot of armor and wheeled vehicles. Still am, but i want to squeeze this one in between   Wink .

The model i have in thoughts, is the Yak-3 white 100 from the 402GvIAP in Germany early 1945. I have found only one photo with a misterious camouflage. On the photo i see a white prop and spinner, special nose art that vary in color (white with red, black with red, white with blue). Camouflage colors seems to be AMT-11 bluegrey AMT-12 dark grey and on the bottom AMT-7 Blue (faded) and a white tip on the top of the tail and rudder.

List of items i have for the model

- Zvezda 1/48 Yak-3 kit No. 4814
- Eduard Yak-3 S.A. Item No. 49641
- Komplekt zip Control surface, exterior details Yak-3 Item No. 48018 (control surfaces, oil cooler intakes)
- Komplekt zip Exterior details Yak-3 Item No. 48016 (Spinner, prop blades and exhausts)
- Vector resin Yak-3 wheel wells and corrected wingroots intakes Item no. VDS48077
- Armory Yak-3 wheel set Item No. AW48004

Also i have some parts of the old Eduard yak-3 Neomega resin cockpit. I think the seat is the most usable. Also some decals from the Eduard dual build Yak-3 kit and some masking (if it fits). When i had a look at some Print scale decals for my Yak-9D, i have seen the nose art on the sheet. Its for the Yak-9UT, but i can use it for the Yak-3 too. On the Zvezda decal sheet, there are also the same nose art decals. They are smaller and the sword at the end is black. So i want to use the Print scale decals.

The kit looks very crisp and the add ons are making sure that this will be a exelent model. I think there are two big challanges.
1. The placing of the corrected wingroots and oil coolers.
2. Figuring outout the camouflage pattern of the AMT-11 and AMT-12

Photo's will follow ofcourse  Cheesy

Regards, Remco

Hi Remco,
it was a long time.
Your posts are interesting, I have to say that some parts of the kit of Zvezda that I see on your photos are below my expectations, particularly the air intakes that are well visible on the completed model.
Uploading photos on this forum requires an external hosting, just as you have done.
About the camouflage, I think that 66misos has published some drawings in his posts of some time ago. It worths that you look for them, or post questions to him.
Please, keep us informed on your work.
Regards
Massimo

Hi Massimo,

The difference between the kit parts and resin add-ons are quite big. The air intakes are indeed a big letdown. The control surfaces in the kit have few detail. Most stunning part for me, is that there is a seal of approvement from the Yakovlev bureau, suggesting that its a extremly accurate model.... But it still beats the old Accurate models /Eduard Yak-3.

The surgery is going surprisingly good.

Hi Remco,
if I remember well, the kit of Ka-58 of Italeri too was approved by the Kamov okb... but this doesn't mean much, just that they were paid to use their name.
Anyhow, the Yak-3 looks an excellent model despite small shortcomings, there is no reason that Yakovlev had to discard this.
I have the kit of the Yak-3 of Zvezda in 1/72, it is simplified in some respects, extremely detailed in other ones. I suppose that it is obtained from the same 3D drawing of its bigger brother in 1/48.
The most desturbing thing is the presence of molding defects on the wings, where the plastic thickness changes.

Massimo

Question. On the resin replacement part, there are two small hatches between the two outlets. Are these common on the Yak-3 with the Klimov 105 engine?

Hi,
I suppose that, if the author of the master included them, he had his sources. Are them engraved on the kit?
To tell the truth, the engraving of the resin piece looks rough on the photo, and the outlets not symmetrical. Is this a wrong impression, or real?

Hi Massimo,

Its indeed a bit of a rough casting. The inlets are not symmetrical. I have to ajust this. The hatches should be have a pear shaped form. So iguess the Komplekt Zip is not correct. I can do a fast job of just filling them up with putty, or i can fill them up and make sone pear shaped hatches from lead or thin plastic....

Some adjustment to the landinggear. Here we can see the difference between the kit wheels and the Komplekt Zip wheels. In my eyes, Komplekt Zip has won the wheel contest

Hi,
I see, the resin wheels are much better. Pity that Zvezda  hasn't made better tyres.
