I've uploaded a page on the Type 4 at

http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/i16/type4/type4.htm

I know that it's a type without an interesting operative history, but I've put together all that I was able to collect, including my new line drawings.

I will appreciate any input to improve the page.

Regards
Massimo

Thank you! Hope the photos will usefull for your pages.
Yes there are 2 photos of the plane 22 and the 2 photos of the plane 47 as well.
Also I didn't post few more photos , mostly the front views (the page have enough I-16's spinners already - winter, summer, halfwhite). I can mail it to you, just let me know if you wish.

Hi,
this photo is interesting, it is a late I-16 type 24 with radio mast and auxiliary tanks. Pity that the visual is deformed. Could you send an uncropped version of the image, so I can try to correct the perspective?

N.96 has visible gun barrels; it is visible on another photo that shows early type landing gear doors, so it is a type 27.

Hi all,
I've uploaded pages:

on UT-2, UTI-2 and UTI-3, the early training twoseaters

http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/i16/uti2/uti2.htm

on UTI-4, the standard training twoseater

http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/i16/uti4/uti4.htm

Minor updates were made on the drawings and text relative to Type 4, 5 and 29 already uploaded.

I've noted a small problem when one enters a page after the first time and some drawings had been updated in some way: it could visualize the old version of the drawings, already stored in the cache of his PC.
It is a problem common to all sites where images have been updated.
To be sure to visualize the latest version of the drawings instead of the one stored in the cache of his PC, one has to clean it.
https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-clear-cache-in-windows-10?IR=T

The pages are not yet linked from the main I-16 page, I'm waiting to have all the pages of all the versions done.

Massimo

Hi all,
here is a new page on I-16 Type 10:

http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/i16/type10/type10.htm

Next one will be the Type 17, a much smaller and simpler work.

Dear friends,
In this very interesting page from Massimo, there is a short note on the “silver” color that was often applied to other Polikarpov airplanes.
In the M. Maslov book “The battle "gulls" of Stalin. I-15, I-15bis, I-153” (Боевые «чайки» Сталина. И-15, И-15бис, И-153) there is a very interesting document, that I do not seem to have seen before, on the reason for the use of this color:
“Color options
In an explanatory note to the revised draft of the I-15 bis, drawn up on February 25, 1937, and written by the Director of the aircraft factory N°1 Sidor, Chief designer Polikarpov and assistant chief designer Tetivkin, it was said: "The coloring of the aircraft will be given great attention. We believe that the I-15bis aircraft is intended to take the fight mainly at altitude, and not on a low-level flight, the color of the aircraft's color should be in harmony with the color of a clear or cloudy sky and masked by it. ...We think it is necessary to paint the aircraft to match the color of a clear blue sky or the color of a cloudy sky, that is, a grayish-silver color. In addition, in some cases, it is necessary to mask the aircraft for the ground, giving a greenish protective color””
It is interesting that the first Bf 109 in Spain, painted “silbergrau”, had just arrived, so the idea seems to have originated without foreign influence, and these ideas were at the origin of the Summer 1937 decision to paint monocoque aircraft silver.
But obviously at Zavod 21 they had a lot of green paint available… Grin

Nice work as usual, Massimo! Just one question, though - about halfway down the page there are two images, with the caption "Two photos of a type 10 numbered red 1, captured by Germans during Barbarossa." That aircraft was photographed over and over again - I probably have 10 different pictures of it, scrounged from ebay.de and other sources. In two or three of these, it appears that the inboard end of the aileron goes right up to the curvature at the rear of the wing root. If I'm right, that detail would make it a type 5, wouldn't it? Here are two examples - what do you think?

As usual, when you want a clear view of a "Barbarossa victim", the details you're trying to see are obstructed by conquering heroes having a smoke break...

Cheers;
John
