Wow boys..., You both started to push me into the corner of the ring. OK, 1/48 decals were for us a big surprise and success. We planned only limited 100 of them, in the end we printed twice more and sold practically all before it was printed. We are not expecting the same with small ones, but I am still more and more close to the 1/72nd decals.
Rumours little bit - I was in touch with Jiri Latal of KoPro, discussing new AML release of La-5FN. As a reaction to this kit we are right now working on limited run of KoPro kit with avalon decals for Czechoslovaks in USSR plus small photoetch and some resin parts from company Griffon. This kit will target the shops for much less price than AML short run, which is by the way born on KP kit, rescribed into negative and re-tooled, in some places as a plus in some as a minus (John knows...).
Another story is KoPro IL-10 Beast, which was repaired and re-tooled as much as possible. The kit is ready, but not released yet. I will give You note when and how to recognize it is new tooling.
Also CMK is close to the release of Il-10 - 1/48 scale - that is why I am looking for materials according the "Heavy beauty"... Stay tuned.
Now I am thinking where to find 100x200 mm of printing space and how many "F" symbols........... Bye for now

Hi Jan,  Smiley
could you let us know more on this revised Il-10? I built this lit a lot of time ago, and it looked pleasant enough for the standards of the age. The point that let me more unsatisfied was the step behind the propeller's blades.

About the La-5FN of KP: isn't it possible to convert it into a F with few pieces of resin?  Or, maybe, to obtain a cheap La-5 kit with a new plastic fuselage and canopy?

To Massimo and others - KP IL-10 - there are new wheels, repaired fuselage - there were some damages during the years, new clear parts . canopy is now really clear. Unfortunately, with the spinner it is still the same - it is steel mold and it is not possible to repair this part. The same - it is not possible to change positive panel lines to the negative ones. Steel mold has its limitations. These minor changes were made to another KP kits - MiGs 15, 17, 19 - new canopies, repaired some parts which did not fit well, added details to the cockpit, new seats. Problem is that usually You are not sure what are You buying, especially via e-shop. In general, a lot of KP kits were improved to higher standard as they were at the time of launch. Of course with limited possibilities.
KP right now started to look for new way to sell more kits, limited runs are the way for sure, I am personally involved in La-5FN, some talks started with IL-10 (I hope Massimo will give me the hand with the subject  Wink).
There is the group of people, usually some cottage producers, who started to support our the oldest producer, some points are problematic - they are still very rigid and they don?t want to start with EPO molds (short run), I can not locate why. And to make steel molds for let?s say La-5F fuselage only is very expensive. And with steel mold You must think in thousands of pieces. Problem today, when chinese are behind the corner.

Resin conversion to older La-5F is a little bit problem, thanks to construction of the kit. Also the casting of such a kind of parts is a tricky (believe me, I was running resin kit company PROFIKIT some years).
So until now we know that there will be limited run Lavochkin, FN version with decals for some Czechoslovak A/C, with resin and PE detail parts. One theory is to pack two planes in one box to allow You build two kits from one box, in various cammo schemes.
Detail sets and decals will be produced for KP only, no aftermarket and limited run.

There is also very realistic chance, that later You will meet KP kits in avalon box, with "outstanding" decal sheet and some details in resin and PE. Maybe that even conversions from single-seater to trainer or something like this. Today inside the avalon it is in the stage of talks only. Decals in 1/72 are closer... Grin.
I think I will start new topic KOPRO kits to discuss all at right place.

BTW - Renato, how many "F" symbols on decal sheet will satisfy You?

Bye for now,

Good news! Good news! Good news!
Thanks Avalon, trully appreciate your effort and experience.

Regarding "F" marks, just enough to cover your existing profiles, that's 6 pairs total? Personaly, I would appreciate 5 pairs at least? Grin
You know, it would be a shame to stash 3/4 of your decal sheet and not to at least try (or dream of) building at least one more. The more I look at this decals, the more I drool. I have some 7's and 5FN's covered in my plans, but I think I will put 2 of each to the side - until you make them in 72 scale Smiley

Thanks again for devoting your time to present so detailed explanations. Best wishes with your work.

Thanks, Jan - I can't add anything to what Renato has already said so well! It's great that finally there are some new things happening with my favourite aircraft, the La-5. Just to echo Renato, thanks for giving us such a detailed update on what's happening and what's being considered for the future!

Best regards;

Hi Jan, Smiley
if I can be useful in any way, please ask.
I would suggest to add instrument panels in the decals sheets, particularly on 1/72 ones. Maybe not anyone loves them, but they are an interesting option all the same.
Perhaps decals can be utilized to add easily some details that are lacking in the kits; for example, the side grilles to convert a late type MiG-3 into an early type (if you are still interested in that type). This could be useful in a sheet for the Hobbyboss kit.

Hi to all - little update - decals for VVS La-5FN 1/48 are currently sold out at avalon stock, only limited quantity of czechoslovak ones remains in the stock. Huge quantity was sent to Hannants and Modelimex.
1/72nd scale decals will come I hope in October 07, second half. Limited run of 100pcs only. From the sheet will be removed "White 70" - Semencev, as it is covered in KOPRO kit, some three A/C will be added, I hope, among them "Black 77" Jevstignejev and Galchenko "black cat". More FN and F symbols will be added to the sheet. Preorders are possible at info*avalon-decals.eu
I am waiting for translation from hungarian of some comments regarding 1/48 sheet from Istvan Vadasz to correct mistakes if there are some. Unfortunately, Istvan can not speak english and my hungarian is on ground zero level.

Hi Jan, Smiley
the sheet for 1/72  La-5FN is very interesting for me. But, why only 100 pieces? Could'nt you print all the sheets required by the market?

Great news and congratulations on "sold out" - this is truly a mark of a great success Smiley
Regarding 72 scale, I'm 100% interested into them. Where exactly on your page we could pre-order? Via Contacts on Menu?
Oh, what about payment process? Any chance for PayPal?

Many thanks for the effort!

Hi to all,
few comments -
we got preorder from John Thompson, it is in the system. Thanks! Details in personal mail later.
Yes, we use PayPal or CCards.
Why only 100pcs? In fact, even if it sounds strange on this forum, Russians are not bestsellers, we expect that 100 will be enough. Other point is that we can print 100pcs, for less money and sell out, and print new sheets without dead stock... Maybe I am wrong and 100 will be not enough, which turns me into higher numbers with future release. (Some Russians are in the queue). The last problem is that we are mainly airliners specialist and we use another distributor net, for military aircraft we do not have good distri-net until today, but is coming better.
And the last - 1/72 lavochkins were not in the plan, thanks to Renato and John (and some others) we changed plan, the only free window at the printers was this small 100pcs series... Bad luck.

For those many, many enthusiasts who just can't get enough of anything related to the La-5 family, here are the AML 1/72 decals, thanks to Modelimex:
http://www.modelimex.com/inshop/scripts/detail.asp?itemid=21590
http://www.modelimex.com/inshop/scripts/detail.asp?itemid=21591
These are a surprise - I was expecting a La-5FN sheet for the KP kit, but both of these sheets are for the VES/Cooperativa/Maquette/Eastern Express/Gran 1/72 La-5. They look similar to the decal options included in the South Front 1/48 La-5 kit (heavy on "Valeriy Chkalov" schemes - yes!!!  Cheesy), scaled down to 1/72, but I haven't done any comparing.

There are also two 1/48 sheets:
http://www.modelimex.com/inshop/scripts/detail.asp?itemid=21586
http://www.modelimex.com/inshop/scripts/detail.asp?itemid=21587
Apparently these are for the Zvezda 1/48 La-5FN. But what colour have they used for Popkov's "WHITE 01" markings, on the second sheet?! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember that the Zvezda kit already includes a decal option for V.I. Popkov, correctly in white and not the yellow colour shown in the Zvezda box art, so it's odd that AML chose this one, regardless of numeral colour.

Popkov's aircraft is discussed in detail here, for those who might have missed it:
