Hello,

Maybe a stupid question but how is possible to know a La-5 model whith its serial number.
If I'm not mistaken, the first 2 numbers of a serial is the model. But it seems that the serial numbers of the La-5F and La-5FN start with the same 2 digits: 39.
How to know if this serial number: 39210796 is an F or an FN ?
The same for 39212955, 39211445, 39210385 ? 39217475 and 39211278 ?
These aircraft are depicted sometimes as La-5Fs and sometimes as La-5FNs...

TIA, regards.

Hi,
I think that 39 is the type, 21 the factory, then the serie, then the individual number that should be the same painted on the fuselage.
Could you provide a link to the photos of the planes, please?

No link Massimo, it's condensed informations found on some Russian websites (in Russian language) like this one: https://forum.il2sturmovik.ru/topic/1050-%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%87%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%8B/page/8/?tab=comments, with the first post of the Topic: "Ivan Kozhedub La-5 & La-7" and this image

I noticed on the website I provide above that some photos where we can see some La-5F with "big digits" wearing the AMT4-6 & 7 camo . I thought it was an impossible combination...  Shocked

Hi Steph, a rare combination, probably dated June or July 1943. First changed the numbers, then the camouflage, then the stars.

Hello,

No reply by Mr Stankov (email and Messenger).  Sad
I would like to know more about La-5 "96". It's noted La-5FN but drawn as an La-5F, I don't understand  Huh I imagine that the ccamo scheme is wrong...
I previously noticed this scheme "black 96" pictured as an La-5FN with overall AMT11 on upper surface on a Vector decal sheet...

Is there anybody to translate for me (us  Grin ) the text under each aircraft please ? It's an image and impossible to copy and paste on Google translator  Roll Eyes

TIA for your help, regards
Stéph.

Hi Steph,
I wouldn't rely on such a strange profile without a photo.
The pattern of black 96 suggests a grey plane, but if so, the dark colors shouldn't pass under the stabilizers.
