Looking at the image John provided I noticed something on that photo that the profile missed. There seems to be a third colour around portions of the black area near the #16 area.

Maybe it was a remain of a winter temporary camouflage. The photo shows more white areas than the profile, at least on the wingroot.

Makes more sense Winter wash than a bare metal portion like the profile.
