Now complete - Zvezda 1/48 Lavochkin La-5FN "Mongolski Arat"

Hello guys,

Here are some work in progress pics on the Lavochkin.

AMT-11 and 12 are mixes from Gunze based RLM 76, with addition of black.
Decals from the Avalon sheet.

I've been first applying a yellow engine cowl ring, from what I read in the Osprey book about Lavochkin aces, but stand corrected as yellow is a theater ID marking and reverted to red.

Since these pics were shot, a coat of flat has been applied and next item is the exhaust stains.

Hope you'll like her, ans as usual, comments and critics are most welcome.

Hi Stef,
seems nice so far.
I suppose that yellow could really have been used during the delivery, but that was replaced by red before the plane went into combat. Some photos show a confusingly right ring, lighter than the stars, but reports credibly describe the rings as red.

Hello guys,

Here's my last completed model, the Zvezda, 1/48 Lavochkin La-5FN, white 22, from 2 GIAP (Aviation regiment of the Guard). The yellow scribing reads "Mongolsky Arat", workers of Mongolia, whose donation funded 12 aircrafts in the squadron.

This the first of the Zvezda's "new tooling", and was build out of the box, decals from the Avalon range. Quite easy build but for the soft plastic and the engine cowling is a bit tricky, as there are lots of parts to align.

Paints from the Gunze acryl range, various mixes of RLM76 as basis, with black and blue.

Hope you'll like her, and as usual comments and critics most welcome.

Hi Stef,
it seems a good model, I would be satisfied if my one will result as your one when/if built.
How are the decals of the box? Well centered enough to be used?
I looked for the meaning of Mongolsky Arat and found this:

The Mongolian word ard means "people", but was malapropriated in Russian and other languages as Arat to mean a nomadic pastoralist or herdsman.

Previously, I remember to have found it translated  as 'Mongol pride' or something similar.

@Massimo : I'm perfectly sure you'll be able to do a much better work than mine .
As for the translation of Arat, my latin class memories are very dusty, but "aratur" is connected with agriculture. At least, in french, we have the word "aratoire" refering to farming instruments and I sense a common root somewhere.

re the colors, It's been a trial and error process, and I finally decided for a recipe I found in this very forum, from my French colleague Xan, about mixes of RLM 65 with black and a touch of blue.
I was  mostly concerned by contrast between AMT 11 and 12, as on most B&W pictures the contrast is quite low between these 2 hues.


Next in the row, a GWH MiG 29 and ICM MiG 25 - and a LaGG 3, possibly.
